I'm early TH8 with 4 builders, farming the awesome skulls. Even though 1 level 10 wall = 6 level 8 walls ... well, we're all in it! I'm currently making 600k-1M per hour in the 1200s, using barbs + archers + wbs. My "guideline" is to only go for battles where I get 1k+ gold per unit.

A few open questions for the club:
- do you only attack 1k+, or do you aim for 2k+?
- is sub 200 not better-suited to your goldy needs?
- I jumped to 1500s to farm DE when I was TH7. Is it possible to get 200k gold battles at that range, spending 20 minutes or less of troops?
- lightning or rage? (I'd go for lightning mortars, but maybe there are strats I'm not aware of, esp in the 1400s)
- how did you get the 5th builder? trees and achievements only, or bought?
Judgement tip: collectors and mines level 8 (or 9?) and above appear empty. Judge their content by 1) the DE drill, 2) collectors level 7 or below, or 3) subtracting the approximate amount in the elixir storages from the lootable amount.
Making-it-more-fun tip: maxed elixir -> make dragons or pekkas during the night. Sure, you can't keep half of your drags for the next battle, as you would do with your archers, but it's a change. And the occasional 3-staring keeps the morale up =)
Never-forget tips:
- fill your barrack queues before going to battle
- the longer you next, the higher loot you should aim for (otherwise your 1k-per-unit margin gets eaten by your next costs). After 100 nexts, a TH8 spent 58k!
- the BK can be pretty useful - 3- or 4-hit mortars and WT
- a WB takes 2 mins = 4 archers' time. Sending 30 archers to get 40k is worth it, but 30 archers + 5 wbs (30 + 5*4 = 50 ) is not.
