Attacking own TH levels - who has it best/worst?

Is there any TH level that has a distinct advantage or disadvantage over attacking a village of same TH level?

I guess for the sake of argument, we'll say that each TH level is maxed out - troops, defenses, and walls.

Is there a particular TH level at which a maxed player should be able to reliably 100% destroy a similar level maxed out village?

I know that other factors play into this - army composition, base design, trap placement, etc, but just wondering if anybody has it better off, or worse off than others.

I know I have seen it said many times that maxed dragons at TH7 can easily wipe out any TH7 base, and some TH8. Is that the "sweet spot"?

It's not TH8, I can tell you that.

I think the last level that attack overpower def is TH7.

I've seen plenty of TH8 bases that can defend against most popular attacks even from maxed troops.

But for TH7, there is just not enough fire power in def.

We're talking about 3 stars here. Not just 2 stars or anything.

Have to agree with the above. In my opinion TH7 attacking a TH7 with level 2 dragons would be the best constant 3 star... at least out of the town halls that can attack above their size as well. In my experience it's rare to see a TH6 or lower who can actually attack get less then 3 stars against their equals with a war army.

TH7 with dragons will 3 star any th7, maxed or not.

Maxed th10 attacking a maxed th10, 3 stars are verrry hard to pull off

Its pretty hard for a th10 to 3 star another th10. TH7 is relatively easy, G-heal with some zaps and a rage.

TH7 has the easiest chance of 3 starrring their own level.

TH8, 3 stars with a well executed gowipe is doable......

So far I'd say TH9 has proved the hardest to get 3 stars from(as an equal). As a TH9, I find 2 stars no problem, but 3 is by no means a certainty - at least in my experience so far ...... (Only just got hounds to lvl2, and still trying the lavaloon strategy - jurys out on that one, but many seem to be saying its an easy 3 star - I have 3 starred a couple, and failed spectacularly on others)

I'm an almost maxed th 8 and for me it's impossible to 3 star a maxed th 8 with a flawless layout.

Th 7 is the easieast th level for that.with full dragons and 3 lightening spells for 1 ad you can 3 star any th 7 with 11 level 1 dragons

i have a th8 and a th10 that i war with frequently and here is how i define failure on each account:

th8: not getting a 3*
th10: not getting any stars

so for me it is hands down th10. a few mistakes on a raid against a well developed th 10 with a good layout and you are looking at zero stars.

TH7 for sure...

TH8 has it pretty good. I have a TH8 mini and I get 6 stars each war no problem although my TH8 peers have trouble. I guess it comes to experience, because this is my second time through TH8 I have a lot of experience attacking other TH8s.

TH9 is pretty tough. I'm having pretty good success 3 staring mid TH9s but not so much with max TH9 with high level heros.

TH10 is where it starts to become real hard. Even the top clan war players that I've seen in war recaps struggle getting three stars in many cases.

hah, you are right to call me out on that. typically i'm not attacking a maxed th8 because the war machups that my mini's clan is in rarely pulls anyone with a fully maxed out th8.

i do agree with the earlier point that a th8 vs maxed th8 can be tough to 3* and i do generally only pull of a 2* against those types of bases. i tend to run with all dragons and sometimes against well developed th8s it comes down to which way the dragons turn.

what hog composition do you use? i've been wanting to move away from dragons and start trying out hogs myself.

I used to do full dragon(level 3)but since that doesn't work well against well placed air defenses i've tried hogs level 4 2 or 3 times.I'm not used to them and only getting 1 or 2 stars.
I usually manage to trigger most giant bombs but my hogs either die on the last defenses remaining or there are not enough left alive to 3 star the base.
I think i have a problem with the timing of my spells.
I use 36 hogs(the rest of my troops are fort the opponents cc).3 healing spells too
I attack in a way that my hogs will divide in 2 groups 1 for each side.sometimes it's hardto do that because defenses are everywhere so i use 6 hogs to destroy a defensive building or 2 and create 2 seperate paths.


I don't know what to do.

10 level 3 dragons...5 level 6 loons in your cc. Spells are usually either 3 lightning or 2 rage 1 heal. You can 3 star any th8 with that army comp....its way tougher than th7 though and you need to time things well.

th7 obviously is an automatic 3 star against other th7s with all dragons and 3 lightning.

TH7 and TH4 below pretty much have it easiest. TH5 and 6 just don't have enough power to overpower defenses. TH7 has drags.

TH10 definitely has it worst. Two stars is considered good.

At TH9 its pretty easy to 3 star another TH9 using a lava loon type attack

Easy as pie to three star a th8 and below if you are the same th level.

Yeah thats a name some people give it. If all the AD's are in the center thats why you use 2 rage and 1 heal. cut a path to funnel your drags to the middle. Heal on the CC troops and drop your loons. Rage soon after...then use your 2nd rage to speed up the loons to the last AD.

Obviously easier said than done sometimes with the funneling...but you can 3 star any max th8 with that.

I remember this being the case at TH7, but not since then.

It really depends on the base and how hard it is to get to double giant bomb spots, also if they have many double giant bomb locations if obviously gets alot easier if its a second attack on the base so you know where its at.

The basic strategies I use have come from learning the techniques from a number of youtube users thehulkfiles probably being a main one. Most of his older videos where th9 but they can easily be scaled to th8.

So compositions:
Lure troops: Depends on base but either 2-3 hogs, loons or giants then an archer to drag the cc towards a side/corner or a couple barbs if no free buildings

Kill squad: Used to kill cc and continue to do damage afterwards. I took 2 witches and 1 barb in my cc, dropped 2 barbs spread a bit, then cc, then a couple wizards in behind.

To the kill squad I will then usually use a couple wizards to funnel them where I want to go and sometimes a golem if they have a specific important destination (double giant bomb) also a couple wall breakers to get them in the right compartment

After that is remaining spaces worth of hogs and usually 2 or 3 wizards to drop around the base to speed up clean up

So total comp
cc:2 witches, 1 barb
3 barbs
3 archers
6-8 wizards
0-1 golem
0-4 wallbreakers (usually no more then 2 but depends)
25-32 hogs.
3 heals

The key really is to understand what is going on and design an army for that base not just following a given formula because it won't work every base.

I've also ran around 10 hogs to clear a certain area with other army comps either 2 golems and wizards or a gowipe with a half dozen hogs under heal to take out some strategic tight sections of the base it really depends.

Maxed TH9 is pretty hard to 3 star when there was no Lavahound
TH8 is not that hard if you really know how to use dragloons or hogs.
TH7 is certain 3 star by lv2 dragon/3 zap tactics

It CAN be done, but not so easy since last update. I stopped counting the number of failed attempts on my bases - 1 maxed TH8 (minus walls), and 2 almost maxed TH8 (minus walls and teslas).

It's been consistent across the board - doesn't matter if I leave my AD centralized or have them spread out. Doesn't matter if the TH8 attacking me is using 3 lightning to take out 1 AD, 3 rage, 2 rage/1 heal, 2 heal/1 rage....they have all failed to 3 star me.

Even before the last update, my bases have been pretty successful at defending against mass drags (credit my lvl6 AD and tanking them behind storages, and creative CC and BK placement).

The only people that have successfully 3 starred me with mass drags have been TH9 with the extra dragon and CC troops, and the extra spell.

Without mass drags, my bases usually fall to mass hogs (lvl 4 or higher), and TH9 gowipe or gowiwi attacks. I have no shame in losing to TH9 guys.

It works the other way too....my successful 3 star mass drag attacks have only been on non-maxed TH8 and lower - usually with 1 lvl5 AD and rest at lvl4.

Haywood I said in my post that its not as easy as th7...any idiot will 3 star a th 7 with all dragons at 3 lights.

Now I've yet to see a base that couldn't be 3 starred by dragons and max loons in the cc at th8. Tougher than 7...of course...but its always possible with that army comp to get any th8.

I sat on TH8 for way to long of time and gained alot of stars off dragon/dragoon. After last update it stopped it being a sure thing. You'll hit a trap here, cc wizards will get a lucky volley yadda yadda. Soon enough you dont have enough muscle for 100%. Just about everyone I know noticed it. Dragloon with 8/13 works really well. I never got the ballz but I wanted to try 6/21 outside of farming. I had a really well planned full dragon attack where every one of my dragons stack on top of cc wizards without attacking them first. They practically got one shot. First ever no star since TH5. Easiest stars is TH7 dragons but I still see people failing by refusing to lightning the ad down. The get clever with rage/heal spells and think they can still just roll face across screen.

At TH7, I was able to 2 star maxed out TH9s so I suppose I'd have to go with TH7 :p

And no offense but if you can only 3 star bases with really low ADs then you can probably improve your attacking abilities first. Again its not as easy as everyone likes to say it is but with some practice you can 3 star any th8 as well.

I guess I'll just consider myself lucky, because it surely isn't my base design. I've got 4 TH8 bases running from all maxed defenses, down to 1 lvl6 and 2 lvl5 AD with all archer towers still with another level to upgrade, and none of them have been 3 starred by a TH8 mass drag with loon6 in CC attack since before the last update. Doesn't matter if they use 3 lightning to take out 1 of the AD, 3 rage, 2 rage/1heal, 2 heal/1 rage....I just haven't seen a successful raid since the winter update.

I know it isn't my base design, because each of them is different - I've buried/clustered my AD in the center, set it up as described in JTJ U video so that CC will draw them in, just to see if people actually know how to use them. I've hung my AD on the outside ring, as scattered as possible, and just about everything in between.

Without any confirmation from Supercell, I know they messed with dragon AI. Up until the last update, I used to 3 star with them consistently, to the point that I would play cleanup as needed, and teach the other members how to use them properly. After the update the dragons path differently, and ability to 3 star has been reduced significantly.....to the point that my clan has banned their use in war unless we get the rare occasion to go up against a TH7 or fresh TH8...or poorly upgraded TH8. It's just easier and cheaper to gowipe - 2 stars is 2 stars regardless.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, or that you aren't a dragon master and much more advanced at using dragons. I'm only reporting what I've seen as someone that wars 2-3 times a week with 4 different accounts.

Either way, I didn't want this to turn into discussion on mass drags....there are plenty of those threads around.

TH6 is the easiest TH to attack :D

AI hasn't changed. It's the addition of skeleton traps that potentially screws up attacks. AI never changes without it being explicitly stated in the patch notes.

Trust a guy who just upgraded to TH7.If you got some practice and know what to do, TH6 is super easy.I had maxed troops in TH6.About 23 Giants are used.First take out the Air Defenses. Then send in 2 Healers.Use clean up troops to fill the other spaces.2 Heal Spells will do the job

TH 1. Other TH 1's can't attack you. :rolleyes:

I don't think it was purposefully changed, however, I do agree with him. They have pathed differently since the update. I was facerolling other TH8's and garunteed 2 stars or more on non maxed TH9's. Since the update I have had to actually plan the attacks and even then those are lucky to 3 stars and sometimes lucky to 2 star. They just seem to not go the right way these days.
Since then I have been incorperating minions and/or loons and Finding it a little easier to get the 2 stars and possibly get 3.

I'm a TH8 with level 1 dragons, consistently get 3 stars against TH8s. Maxed air defenses are hard though.

The lower the TH, the more offense has the advantage.

The higher the TH, the more defense has the advantage.

It's not the AI, it's the HP changes.

If you look closely, some of those HP changes have made buildings take one more hit from dragon's attack. Lv2 dragons have it really bad, with three hits of their attacks doing 720 damage, but many buildings were buffed to have just above 720 HP.

Same thing with PEKKAs, many buildings were buffed to have just above 750 HP meaning that lv3 PEKKAs need 2 hits to destroy them, instead of one.

Doesn't sound like much, but it slows down the attack a little bit at every building, just enough to make a difference.

TH9 can get 3 stars on another TH9.

A top TH10 attacking another top TH10 is rarely gonna 3-star.

Where has the broken wall breaker AI ever been addressed here by a mod or SC rep?? I'd really like to see it. Wall breakers are KEY to any kind of ground attack, and there is now no figuring where they will go. I personally think that is garbage. If they had always sucked that is one thing, but to have them be mostly predictable not that long ago only to make them worse now is horrible!
