do you leave your war loot in CC or collect immediately?

Depends on the situation. If I need the loot, I take it out. If I don't I leave it in.

I always leave mine in the CC, and I only collect it when I needed it, which rarely happens.

Clan Castle can be, or actually is the fifth Gold/Elixir Storage in Clash of Clans. You can put your storages and CC in different compartments. A maxed level Clan Castle also has 34oo hitpoints while level 11 Gold Storage and Elixir Storage have just 2016 hit points. It will be harder for the attackers to take your loot.
Moreover, the percentage available loot can be stolen of Clan Castle is lower than Storages’. These tables will show you the details (suppose you are attacked by the same and higher TH level villages).
Clan Castle:

Town Hall	1 – 5	6	7	8	9	10
Percent Lootable	10%	9%	8%	7%	6%	5%

Gold and Elixir Storages:

Town Hall	1 – 5	6	7	8	9	10
Percent Lootable	20%	18%	16%	14%	12%	10%

For example: If you have 1 million Gold in your Clan Castle, the attacker can only take 50,000 gold from there. But If you have 1 million Gold in your Storages, he can take 100,000 gold from yours.
Wait until you have something to upgrade! When?

• If collecting war loot will allow you to upgrade a building, just do it! Because after that, you will have no gold to lose.
• If you still have war loot from the previous war and you have no space for the next war loot, yes, collect it immediately or you will overfill your Clan Castle.

You kinda forget to mention that as soon as you have over 4M (TH10) in your storage, the loot is more protected in your storage since you have reach the loot stolen cap. For a TH8, the cap is reached only after 2.1M.

So people farming more than 2M a day are much better to empty their CC as soon as possible since they will reach the loot cap faster.

Else you will just give an added 10-5% in addition to the loot cap on each full raid.
