it would be lovely if we could again use either gold or elixer for building walls at any level. is there any chance of that happening? maybe as a valentines treat?
thanks for considering!

because of the 'upgrading walls with elixer'
people couldn't collect as much elixer from people as they used to
this is why it has been deleted, because it unbalanced the loot system
No, not if it ruins the game like it already did once. The only way elixir should be allowed to be spent on walls is if you already have 4million in your storage. Once you drop below 4mil it gets disabled again. Then you could use it for any level of wall without ruining the game.
Its not gone from the game they just moved it up so people in TH 6 and 7 can still get a decent amount of loot from attacks. SC only moved it up to using it on level 9+ walls.
Nope, more likely not dramatic enough. It did ruin the game for most TH9-TH10 players from Sep-Dec. Lots of people quit CoC entirely because it was unplayable beyond TH8/low TH9. 30-60 minutes of clicking next was considered normal before you would run into a village with enough elixir to cover the cost of a simple barch army. Since the only point of CoC is to attack other people and take their loot . . . no loot = no game. Unless of course you consider TH1-TH7 the entire game.
There are thousands of pages of information on this. If you are actually interested a simple search will provide reading for weeks. Have to filter through the troll/flame posts but there is a staggering amount of actual information about it. Elixir for walls was the biggest mistake SC has made. They realized it, tried to fix it and sort of did.
well, to be honest with you, i'm probably one of a small handful of players who never attacks anyone (i get attacked plenty!). i just like building up my little village and making upgrades to it. i have a TH10 and L7 walls that i'm trying to upgrade, but it's so expensive that i find it debilitating.... so it would be nice to be able to use elixer. since i never attack anyone (and never have), i guess i'm an anomaly.
You need to attack. Don't feel bad about attacking someone, it's expected. You will not get anywhere trying to build off of your collectors. Find the villages that have been abandoned and you won't hurt anyone's feelings. The game is based on attacking other villages.
i don't need to attack actually. i spoke with one of the game developers once (we met by chance at pixar) and he told me that he also has a little village and he never attacks either. i get a lot of enjoyment out of playing the game in my own way, and i don't really think that i need to change. if you like playing and attacking, good on you, but i prefer to play my own way. it's not about feeling bad about it, it's just the way i prefer to play.
Some people will do this but usually with a second account. There is a thread on here on the forums where someone wanted to see how far he could get off of only collectors. I think you will find around th8 your progress will basically stop.
The game is designed to gain loot through raiding and if people can't get elixir to raid it kills the game for the vast majority of people.
As for walls from elixir it starts at wall lvl 9 (th9) but even if it stated at th8 it wouldn't really matter. Walls at that stage are 500k a piece which is basically 1 wall per day (assuming you don't lose anything to raids) so I doubt you will get through them before you get tired of a raiding game that you don't raid in. (Sorry if that sounds rude its not meant to be but I would think that something like hay day would be a better match for the non attackers).
Actually, during the Sep-Dec drought I stopped "playing" my three accounts entirely. I would log in to participate in wars and donate but otherwise I ignored the game entirely. If I manufactured enough resources to update something I would but I never had more than 2 builders busy. Two slid down into silver and one down into bronze. It's actually fairly relaxing to play that way. Just need to remember/realize that the game isn't designed to support SimCity/Farmville style play. It can be done but loot production doesn't support it very well in the middle game and it is next to impossible at TH9/10. Just enjoy playing the game your way. That's what games are for!
Just last weekend I started attacking again on my main account and am happy to report that climbing back through gold the number of nexts between viable attacks is acceptable. Loot isn't good enough to wash away the 120,000 gold wasted next-athon memories but the game appears to be worth playing again. You really are missing out on the offensive dynamic. SC has created a very dynamic tactical environment using relatively simple troop/structure intelligence.
Yep. At TH8 the expense of upgrades will force you to store enough resources that you will become a very worthwhile target for TH8-10 attackers. Since at TH8 you have almost zero chance of stopping a prepared farmer you will start loosing loot faster than you can mine/pump it. You'll be forced to buy shields or hope hope hope that you get sniped enough times in a row to hide yourself. Not saying it won't be fun getting there but that is where and why the wall exists.
I think making all level walls upgradeable with elixir is wrong but I think it should be able from upgrading 7-8 and up instead of 8-9.
I believe the person meant as a "max everything first" approach. What you did is smart for the way in which you play, as you most likely just get sniped constantly, so you pretty much net per day whatever your collectors produce. TH8s who try to do that same method will get hit hard constantly.
Yep. I was assuming you were maxing everything before each TH update. Rush to TH10 is a good call for a no-attacking account. Eventually your cheapest upgrade will be in excess of 1,000,000 and with the loot penalty working against you as TH10 it will be difficult to keep saving. Which is why the "must have at least XXX in your storage before you can spend any on walls" method would work. It keeps bases raidable instead of nextable.
Lol, I've still yet to hear a good point that isn't totally refutable for why they shouldn't require a minimum threshold to work on walls. I've heard lots of points on why it shouldn't be, don't get me wrong, but every one has been so easily debunked. That or they are just nonsense, that ends up becoming obvious that the poster was trying to derail the discussion.
