Giant bombs are your only real weapons against hogs at th8.
I would say giant bombs are the most important traps,upgrade them asap
Do Teslas count? If so then when I get to TH 9 im doing:
-teslas
-GBs
-Skeleton traps
-Air Mines
-SAMs
-little bombs
I don't know what the max level for TH 9 is yet though :p so if when i go to TH 9 and it's already maxed I will just skip that.

I think the Giant Bomb is probably the best trap to upgrade. Especially if you're worried about being raided at a lower level Town Hall. Thing is, if you have your base set up well enough where it really takes advantage of the Giant Bombs and maybe funnels the attackers troops into them you can easily dismantle someone using an army composition such as BARCH for example. Only downside is Giant Bombs are very expensive to re-arm therefore I usually don't rely on them or re-arm them. ( Unless we are talking about War Bases )
