Valks are an underused but great troop. They have their niche in GoWiVa or similar attacks. They are nowhere close to "a waste of de". They just require some skill to use. Most players who say they're useless are either going off what others have said or are bad at using them.

Farming: BAM, BARCH
War: GoWiWi, GoWiPe and lately some lavaloonian attacks

Lava loonian is definitely the best strategy for war at TH9 and TH10.

Any TH9 can be 3 stared with a well planned loon drop with good spell coverage
