Welp...
I'm wondering why you accuse people of not reading, when a point is simply reiterated in order to make another.
None of this will happen. SC is not going to add drawbacks for legal attacks, and using lightning is a legal and valid attack. Furthermore shields and defense are based on trophies not resources. I don't see that changing much either to be honest.
It's not a flaw with the game. You simply don't like it.
Furthermore your lovely wall change killed the game's economy effectively causing a rollback of the feature which has now amounted to tons more whining than before. I would not cite the wall change as a "success". It was a disaster, exactly as predicted it would be.
1. I am a programmer.
2. What does that have to do with anything?
3. It's not about whether it's complicated or easy to program. It's that it's a change to the very fundamental equations of the game.
There are plenty of ways to implement something basically like what you're asking for, without having it to implement exactly what you're asking for. Instead of having lightning damage steal less (or no) elixir, we can just make lightning do 0.5x damage (or zero damage?) to DE storage. There's already a multiplier for pekkas and hogs (teslas and GB's, respectively), so there's plenty of precedent.
This isn't a technical issue. It's a gameplay issue. In the basic gameplay of CoC, damage steals resources.
Let's say you have a maxed DE storage. You're a TH9, so you have 2500 available to loot. The DE storage has 3200 hit points. For simplicity, we'll say that every 32 damage steals 25 DE.
Three scenarios:
1. With my entire army, including 5 spells, I manage to clear a path to your core and destroy or distract any defenses which might protect the core. And as a hail mary, I get a pair of level 5 goblin to the DE storage. Damage against DE storage is 128 per attack (64 each), so each attack nets me 100 DE. After 25 seconds, if the goblins can last that long, the DE storage is gone, and I have 2500 DE.
2. I lightning your DE storage, doing 1600 damage out of 3200. Let's say that instead of taking half the resources, I take none, per the typical suggestion. Now my goblins come along and finish it off, dealing 128 damage per attack, and netting me 200 DE per attack.
3. I get my goblins to the core, do 1600 damage before a mortar finally finishes them off. I get half the DE, so 1250 still sits in the DE storage. Then I drop 5 lightning spells, one at a time. First one hits, I get no DE. Second, no DE. Third one, no DE. Fourth, no DE. Now the DE is sitting there with something like 300 hit points, and I drop my final lightning spell.
3a: The DE storage explodes, I shout hurray, and then I see that you still have 1250 DE available to loot. Wait, what?????
Or
3b: The DE storage explodes, and with that ONE lightning spell, I get 1250 DE.
I mean, seriously, do people even thing this ♥♥♥♥ through before they make these asinine suggestions??? Really, lightning damage shouldn't steal resources??? DE should be immune???
If you damage a storage, you get resources. End of story. There are no if's, and's, or but's about it. You damage it, you get the benefits. Anything else breaks the game.
Now, I'm open to the idea of making lightning do less damage to DE storage. We can put a little disclaimer right on the lightning spell:
Least Favorite target: Dark Elixir Storage (Damage x0.5)
A little lame, but at least it's in line with existing game mechanics. Of course, if I'm going for a 3-star win, and all you have left standing is a mortar right next to a heavily damaged DE storage, I would be peeved that my 5x lightning spells couldn't take out the DE storage because it's heavily resistant (or immune??????) to lightning. Sure, how often will that happen??
And how often do TH9's get zapped at 2400 crystals? From everything I've heard, not very often.
If it were actually a serious problem to gameplay, then yes, I'd say let's do something about it. But it's not. You getting annoyed is not a problem. I get annoyed when people raid me. Could be a TH level lower and all they manage to do is kill my CC troops and trip all my traps so I have to spend a bunch of resources to re-arm. That irritates me. Should we do something about it?
You're annoyed on an emotional level, and you are refusing to think about it rationally. On a rational level, this isn't a problem.
You know what peeves me? When someone drops 3x lightning spells on one of my AD's, making me totally vulnerable to an air raid. Or when someone drops 4x lightning on a pair of my mortars, and now I can't fend off a barch raid.
Are there better uses of those spell slots? Yes. But is lightning annoying in more ways than just stealing your loot? Yes. It's a spell that does damage. Use it on a barracks, and you'll probably be called an idiot. Use it on an air defense or mortar, and someone might say wise use of a lightning spell, but still a waste of a spell. When someone uses a lightning spell on a DE storage, in my mind, that's not just a waste of a spell, it's a waste of a lightning spell. But to each his own...
While I don't usually have this happen to me yet, they are making a lot of sacrifices just for an iffy amount of dark elixir. They have very high health, it should be alright.
Nothing should be immune to lightning spells. They have such limited use as it is, I'd hate to see them limited further.
Of course, it is awfully unfair for people to lose a bunch of dark elixir due to lightning spells. Perhaps a second dark elixir storage would work, though I suspect that we'd have to just remove some of the storages ability to, well, store. Else we have people with so much dark elixir that they're bursting with loot. We'd probably have to reduce the health of each storage too, but that'd be counter intuitive.
I guess in the end its simpler to add a bit of health to dark elixir storages - which is crazy, since they already have such high health.
Its the old "armed Robbery is a more honorable way to steal then smash and grab' line. I think these guys that try to talk some moral stance on this do not understand that this is wht they are really saying.
I am not sure why you argued all day on this. Whether or not you agree or if they ever changed their minds and agreed with you it is not going to happen so it was a pointless conversation all day.
How does one keep an idiot occupied?
U zap his DE and he will cry all over Internet forums.
I wont call him an idiot. He seems smart enough to me. Its just that he is only focused on himself and how things work for him while the decision on what to do has to be based on how things work for the game as a whole.
And my point was that the decision to leave it was based on how the game works as a whole is why its not going to change because of anything that gets said on this thread.
