TOP Players and Clans are based on Trophy count. When you are trophy pushing it is fine to only use one so that you save some DE and 45 mins... to get a 1-2 star win. In wars a 1 star win... not that great. This is why the top players will have 1 lavahound, and usually 30+minions. It is for Trophy pushing not for war attacksQuote:

Most top players prob have 1-2 plus one more in CC. But really TH10 vs TH10 lavaloon and TH9 vs TH9 lavaloon are different attacks. They have to think of inferno and freeze, have enough camp space to bring lots of minions, plus have 40/40 heroes to clean up TH (that is why you always see a few wb too). These are also push compositions aiming for 2 stars.
TH9 vs TH9 clan war attacks aiming for 3 stars are a whole different game.
I use two Hounds when raiding and always have spell factory boosted. Two hounds is good for getting 1 star and sometimes two but it is much less reliable.
Btw one thing I would add in the scouting section is to watch out of high level wizard towers that are NOT in range of air defences, ie they will not be attracted to shoot at the lava hounds and instead shred clustered loons. This kind of layout might encourage you to bring 1 heal.
Also, for TH9 spell loadout, sometimes 4 rage is good as well. e.g. in cases where base is slightly more spread and you need to cover ground, or when you are depending on raged pups to kill cc/AQ and hence need another rage is a non-ideal spot to hit defenses.
Saving 2-5 loons to hit from the backend is also very useful to get the 3-star, especially if a wiz toward is amongst the few defenses standing and a couple of loons can aggro it and prevent it from hitting the main pack.
This is the best combo i ever see for atck th9 and th10... :cool:

Funny thing, we are facing a war opponent with 8 out of 30 having TH maxed lava loonian (a missmatch, we only have one TH10 and 4 TH9 in this one, they have 3 TH10 and 9 TH9, but I won't go there). So I assume we will see a lot of lava loonian attacks and the boss will see first hand that there is a better way. I think we still have a shot at winning No. 95, defensively they are not that great.
Not quite sure why, but to date we have seen very few lava-loonian attacks in war by our opponents.
There is a bit of regionalism I think. Europe clans tend not to use it so much, Asian clans a lot more, at least in my experience.
To the earlier post on most difficult cc: dealing with cc (without lure) can be a bit random in a lavaloon raid. There is balloon splash damage and balloon death damage plus lava pups damage - sometimes if you are lucky any cc can die very fast. If I had to pick one I think mostly archers than a few max wiz might be the most dangerous. Hard to lure fully, tendency to disperse if you are attacking from 2 sides at once (common in lavaloon), and left unchecked those max wiz tear things up.
In theory a dragon might be tough too but I haven't come across it. It is pretty ♥♥♥♥ vs most other attacks so most TH9/10 people don't use drag in cc.
This happened to me today during my first attack in war against a max TH9. His queen is lvl5 and xbows on ground so I assumed it was an easy 3-star. The only problem is that the cc is very hard to lure. I used 4 lvl1 lavahounds rest loons but the cc did not die as fast as I thought it should thus I ended up gaining only 1-star. His cc troops btw are 5 lvl5 archers 5 lvl6 archers rest wiz.Quote:
