lixir flows uphill. The amount of elixir a TH10 has is based on how much he can steal from his TH9 prey. The amount of elixir a TH9 has is based on the amount of elixir he can steal from his TH8 prey. When TH8's could spend elixir on walls it was very hard for TH10's to even play the game because there was no elixir left for them to steal because it was being spent by the lower 3 tiers of prey. What people are asking when they request that elixir for level 8 walls to return is to have their already easy game made even easier, while the much harder game for TH9's and TH10's be made even harder at the same time. This gets people going.
Finally, there is just a certain tendency for people to get upset when they hear people that are inexperienced talking like they know everything. I am a level 100 TH9 that is more than half done with my building upgrades and yet I know full well that I am less than half way through the game. I would say the half way point takes place somewhere around 1 billion gold grab (though it can be less since some people get more loot from league bonuses than they do from stealing it so that is not the most reliable way to measure the half way point). Still, if a player has less than half a billion gold grab they are definitely not half way through the game.
I for one appreciated the thread you started about attacking with just barbs. I like threads like that and am always curious to see how abnormal troop composition can work (especially when it is the cheapest and fastest troop comp possible). I think the only reason it led to any flaming is some people got the impression (rightly or wrongly) that you were telling everyone that getting loot with just barbs was easy for all levels of players. That may have not been your intention, but some people apparently read it that way.
