The developers werent counting on players to leave their town hall outside. So, if you think about it, it is kind of reasonable to get 5000 defense wins since the start of you playing.

But you can't have it both ways. Can't use a farm base and get your defence wins. Defense wins are amazing at trophy generating once you have a good base for it! It's astounding.
