This should be stickied so people stop asking for this ruled out idea!!!
Supercell respects the privacy of its players. The player can say if he/she is online at his/her own will. If they want to stay invisible, let it be. Supercell doesn't have to force everyone to show whether they are online or not. Also, this can lead to abuse to clan members such as "Hey Mark, you are online! Gem up a dragon and donate it to me right now or I'll kick you!" I'm certain that Supercell will do whatever it takes to limit abuse in the game.
It's because some people don't want to use online indicator as "when was this person last on." They want to use it to know who's on without occasionally spamming the chat box. They might also want to use to know who, in general, is on instead of knowing if a specific person is online. Also someone might come on frequently to donate but doesn't collect the resources because shield is up.
What's better than nothing? This indicator :saywhat:
for being able to detect when someone was last online at least
If they want to stay invisible, they can use an invisible mode. Plus I doubt that kicking case would be common. I wouldn't want to be in a clan that tells members to gem for the leaders convenience either
This could lead to more abuse, such as "Turn off your invisibility option or I'll kick you! All member of this clan must have the invisibility option OFF" or "If you have your invisibility option on I will automatically assume you are online".
To respond to the gem for the leader's convenience, the player could potentially have many friends in the clan that they are in currently. The player could be afraid to leave behind all of his/her well known friends.
SC can have the status offline on default so that people can come online when they feel like it. That will make it troublesome for leaders to enforce that policy. Some people will come online once in a while to just collect resources and go offline. If leaders kick players for that, it's a sign of bad leadership. Just because something can be abused doesn't mean that it is likely to be prevalent and enough of a reason to say no
For example, wars can (and are) abused with individual players getting easy loot with sniping and moving to the next clan if kicked. They're also abused with entire clans sniping and accepting loses for easy money. Like with online indicators, I'd say the abusable issue is not a good reason alone
If a clan does that with online indicators, they'd probably do that as soon as someone speaks in the clan so it's not like an indicator will magically cause people to start demanding troops from specific persons
I never liked the idea of an online indicator. Sometimes I just wanna be alone y'know? Not chatting to clanmates or donating, just kinda chilling and trolling in global
Also using the collector thing to see if soemones online. Not always accurate but it will give you the idea.
