I have a hard time seeing how farmers are what drive the coc's economy other than loot bonus you get for raids wins on snipes witch for me are kinda rare and hard to find depending on rank. Also all the loot they steal ends up getting horded in there storage after another easy snipe.
Just want to add i have nothing against farming its very good stratgy to gather resources from the game and putting your th out is good way to get a cheap shield as you save up for those big upgrades.
As for giving out free gems there all ready doing it, I wouldn't even mind if you only recieved gold and elixir for removing objects other than gem chest. That way the gems you do recieved would be earned and would give you more incentive to upgrade defense troops heroes ect using not only the free gems they already give you but buy also.

OK, that was a low blow. I should be ashamed... but I'm too amused and sleeply to be ashamed of it right now. Maybe later tomorrow after some sleep.
Whoops, gems from your automated defence dispatching enemy units... That's noticeably different. Not sure how exactly to make that work and be balanced. I'd likely cap that max daily limit with how my base has faired verse attacks. Wizard Towers can be such a meat grinder against troops. Scary, yet amusing to watch.
Had one idea of getting a percentage of the Elixir cost of troops your base took out when someone attacks you, in the form of claiming tombstones. But would have to fix up those things to somehow be more reliable in being generated, with various Elixir gains, or just one, if somehow none were normally spawn-able, that could store all the Elixir reward for a good fight, win or lose.
