We did read the post. He was simply responding to your idea of replacing it with trophy count. And why is this gem count so annoying to you?

Decreases area you can drop troops and simply the fact that it is unnecessary. If I was deciding whether or not to attack someone and I couldn't remember my exact trophy count I would rather know that then the amount of gems i have lol especially if I was close to the next league.
Edit: Does not decrease area you can deploy troops but does get in the way of viewing area when deploying troops there.
