Fix th9/10 first
Large strides in offsetting this gap could be made with a restructuring of the league bonus system. I think we agree that a significant source/increase in income would be required, but having it come from increasing what can be taken from others isn't ideal. Having that source be game-generated would be beneficial to all, and would allow this exponential increase in base progression cost to continue for TH11. I've quoted others below to reinforce this.
And this ^ quote ^ is the one I want to emphasize. Higher THs require so much more invested in order to farm, as the loot penalties make mid-range THs no longer viable and the combination of 8 storages and a myriad of new/upgraded defenses make raiding higher lvl THs very difficult to hit.
There's this opposing force that strengthens as you move up in TH level. It encourages the top level players to continue using the cheapest troops as their form of farming, as they can reap the league bonus rewards just the same with them. But it further widens the gap from being able to properly storage raid or go for anything more than a 1-star attack on stronger bases. The end result of this is a significant decrease in loot per hour, which strongly conflicts with exponential increases on upgrade costs.
Reforming the league bonus system would allow for the stronger attacks that are required for hitting TH10's storages to actual become profitable up at higher leagues. It would also allow more high-loot storage bases to become available more frequently in the matchmaking queue due to it removing the incentive to snipe THs from a farming perspective.

I have a TH9 and and TH10 account and I get TH sniped on both of them at just about the same frequency. TH10s won't be in big trouble if they roll out TH11. This is due to several factors, a big one being that the league bonus system is totally outdated for how many times SC has increased the payouts, economically encouraging 50% 1-stars and TH snipes over any form of farming.
This is an excellent idea. Had they taken advice from even an brand-new, right out of college economist when proposing to unravel elixir for walls, they would have been informed immediately of the crippling economic effect it was going to cause. I don't understand how you develop a game that requires the economy to be at a very stable balance, as any small action taken on it could cause a massive negative impact on overall gameplay and playability, and then go and spontaneously roll out an update without first consulting with someone who could have predicted the consequences a mile away.
Yeah my supermodel girlfriend who goes to a different school (they rezoned the district lines last year) knows a famous celebrity who wants to remain anonymous, and he told her that he found out from his cousin that a mobile phone app company would be unveiling a pretty substantial update this summer.
20 more troops will certainly change a lot, especially if combined with the standard upgrades from a new th. New level cc would make it 25 extra troops. 10 new levels of heroes would be expected which means a Lvl 10 ability at 50 for the BK, which adds 24 lvl 7 barbs and 16 lvl 7 archers.
Combine the above with the standard progression of upgrades and you get lvl 7 balloons, lvl 6 hogs, lvl 3 witches, lvl 7 wizards, lvl 7 golems etc. With these upgrades alone you would have an easy time with th10s. Not to mention the possibility of another DE troop or a lvl 4 Lava Hound. Skilled players are crushing th10s with laloonian as the game stands now.
So even if the only things added to the game are higher levels of camps/troops/hereos, it wouldn't be long before max th10s are being 3 starred.
PS. Add some new lvls to spells and th11 will crush th10.
Now, if they make a new TH11 troop that forces multi infernos to target it (maybe even single inferno too). It's probably too similar to a golem or lava hound, but something with like 10000 HP that didn't attack and only soaked inferno dmg would make TH11 hitting TH10 much easier.
As some players are saying they'd need to change the game mechanics to make a new Th level a good thing.
Right now Th10 is hard to farm and you have to invest a huge amount of resources actually take resources. Thanks to infernos, freeze spells are pretty necessary for storage farming. Add in high level heros, and you have massive wait times. This makes war appealing to Th10 players but that isn't a good method to rake in elixir
The problem with just upping the loot bonus for regular raiding is sniping. Even now, I almost never worry about a real raid on my base. Why? Because I offer my Th free of charge. With 100,000+ to be had basically for free - rarely does anyone turn it down. Heck, I'll pass off on decent loot for this free of charge bonus.
So a multiplier for stars might be necessary. But even then you inadvertently promoting picking on the weaker guys....
I don't want 10 more levels of heros unless I can use them upgrading!!! Otherwise its a massive grind that I have to do with one hand tied behind my back!
I hope SC continues focusing on re-balancing the game. Th10 needs to change if its not the top of the hill anymore.
In the link I posted above, Gunkar suggests a reform to the league bonus system that would all but eliminate TH sniping as a form of farming, as well as offer more lucrative rewards for more devastating attacks.
First, you up the league bonuses across the board to offset the inevitable dropoff in game-generated loot with this new system. The system is this:
1-star: % of league bonus rewarded based on % of damage dealt
2-star: 100% of league bonus rewarded
3-star: multiplier applied to league bonus
The multiplier would have to be flattened out the higher up in leagues you go, given the way the base amounts are offered at each league currently.
To remove the possibility of exploiting the multiplier in the way you brought up, you apply a penalty to the multiplier in a similar fashion to how the loot penalty currently works (based on TH disparity). Maybe instead of 10% and 50% for 1- and 2-TH level differences, it's 50% and 75% or something, but you get the gist. This would leave a base like a TH7 offering up maybe 1.25x the league bonus in Crystal leagues to get 3-starred by a TH9 using Barch/BAM. It would occur, but it would still require that TH9 to expend almost all those troops, and the loot penalty on the storages wouldn't render the base highly profitable to do so. What it would do, though, is cause a natural tendency to demolish lower level bases that don't belong in higher leagues, thus knocking them down to more appropriate ones.
Players could still snipe to get up into the higher leagues, but they wouldn't be able to profit well from being there unless they had suitable troops, as receiving the full league bonus from exposed TH bases would require not just the TH 1-star, but at least 50% damage as well.
Nothing! My arguments were simply that there doesn't need to be some major new troop or resource or spell to 3 star a max th10 as previously suggested.
I was just showing that only a few upgrades would be necessary to do so.
It just feels like players that practice attacking, or put a strategy together arent having a problem. The players that want to spam the map with one troop and hope for the best are the one's complaining. The mentality is "Well if I had better troops I would be better.", "If Supercell added a new resource to use for a new troop, I would be better." "If a third hero was added, I could loot so much easier." None of this is true, practice is what makes people good at anything. The game is called "Clash of Clans", you can't clash and not have a loser. Nerf this, buff that, add this, loot sucks; all arguments that have to be weeded through to find out if there is actually something wrong with the mechanics of the game or it's just someone who thinks the game is not easy enough for them.
/end rant
I might never say this again on here, but I agree. Well said. I don't think TH10 is completely balanced yet, which is why I think TH11 is a long ways off. That said, I think low level heroes is a big reason why many struggle at TH10. It certainly is tough to take on a max TH10 with 15/15 heroes.....
