Should I max dark troops at TH8?

Hi, I'm a late(ish) TH8 currently working on my BK, he's at 7 and will be starting 8 shortly. I am going to get him to 10. Barbs, archers, giants, wbs, wiz, healers, drags, pekkas are all maxed. Loons will be maxed tomorrow. Going straight onto gobs to 5 once loons are done. Heal, lightning and rage all need to go to 5(currently at 4). So offensively I'm pretty set for farming troops and war. I'm definitely going to be maxing walls to skull level. The question I need answering is do I definitely need to do Dark Troops at this level? Currently, Hogs are level 3, minions are level 3 and both valks and golems are level 1. Any advice will be welcomed 😃

I think so. They added a de drill. I did Barb King to 10 first though. still working on the troops while i do walls.

I went to TH9 before the update of 2 DE drills at TH8.

I'd recommend maxing as many units as you use in the upgrade factory before upgrading to th9. I'm wasting time now doing minions & spells I could have done earlier. There's that much more pressure on a TH9 to do well in war, and I feel I'm at a disadvantage because my spells & war troops (golems, hogs, pekkas) are not maxed.

I completely maxed out TH8 except for DE troops and I only got my king to 9. I can't tell you how that worked for me because I'm still going to TH9 as we speak. I got minions maxed, lvl 1 Golem and Valk, and lvl 3 hogs.

You should max Hogs or GoWiPe before hitting TH9 so you are not suddenly lost for War strategies when you hit TH9.

If you care about your war performance at all, absolutely get Hogs to 4 and ideally Golems to 2 before going TH9. You are going to use both extensively when attacking TH9 bases in war at least until you get Lavas unlocked and Loons upgraded, so not having either will make you a liability for war attacking for the first couple of months of your TH9 career.

Wiz are at 5 and pekkas are at level 3, just golems to do but at 60k, they are steep and hanging onto that amount of de at th8 is tough! Same with valks at 50k de. All spells will be maxed and I'm definitely going to do minions and hogs to max level, just golems and valks to think about. As for war, I won't be warring, will that change whether I should do all de troops?

I am in the same boat. My GoWiPe is completely maxed with level 3 pekka and level 2 golems. My king is level 10. Now I still cannot decide if I should upgrade my minions to max and do hogs at TH9, or the other way around. But I will not have enough time to do both, as my defenses are close to max.

As you work on your defenses and walls try to make sure the lab stays busy.

But don't exclusively focus on DE troop upgrades at TH8, the king and elixir upgrades are better value for your resource at TH8.

Depends on how much you use them? I just started my upgrade to TH9. Maxed all troops except Golem, Valk, and Healer. I never used Valks or Healer. I would love to have upgraded Golem, but I'm out of things to spend gold/elixir on so I'm moving on. I think the AQ will improve my attacks more than golems will so that's the route I'm going at first. I'd like to start upgrading golems right after I get Balloons and Giants done at TH9.

I wish I had upgraded at least my golems to 2 before upgrading to TH9 because now I'm working on upgrading all the fun/cool TH9 troops, loons, giants, witches, archers and barbs, and my golems (which I use frequently in war) are still level 1. Now I upgraded my loons first when I became TH9 and got my lab upgraded, then I did giants, then I did witches. I was going to do archers then barbs after witches, because barch owns, but I decided after witches to get my golems going which are on their way to lvl 2 now. Next will be archers, then barbs, then back to golems. Valks are still level 1. I like valks and all but I just don't use them very much and I've read many people lament that the cost to train them goes up quite a bit for not a big improvement necessarily. Whether that's totally true or not, I don't know definitively, however, for the time being, I'll wait on upgrading them.. I'll live.

Good luck in your decision, you'll live if you move on without upgrading your dark troops first but you definitely won't regret it if you do upgrade them first! It's nice to get everything out of the way at the earliest stage you can, just to get it done and out of the way.

Depends on your short and long term goals.

If you war, most of the TH8's that move to TH9 that generally find the transition difficult are those that didn't spend time maxing their dark troops. By not spending that time there you don't get much practice using those troops, so when you are finally thrown a TH9 opponent you will be using unfamiliar lvl 1 troops which you have had very little practice with and will struggle to use.

If you war, I would definitely recommend maxing, minions, hogs and golems as these are featured in the GoWi"...", HoLoWiWi, HoGo"...", Lavaloonion and Loonion strategies which are currently the most used. Maxing your dark troops early and having some patience will allow you practice with those troops and be better prepared for the TH9 transition.

If you aren't warring then the only DE troops that you really need to upgrade at this point are Minions. You probably won't want to Hog in non-war situations because Hogging requires more planning than you can accomplish in the 30 seconds you get to look at a base while nexting, and Golems will only really start being a factor once you are TH10 and want to try and win raids against other TH10s.

You'll have plenty of time in TH9 to get more DE and upgrade your DE troops if war is not a factor, just do it when you have spare DE between upgrading your heroes.

Many thanks for the advice, guys 😃. I've decided I shall upgrade the golem to level 2 if I have the spare de during the long wall grind, but if I don't I won't be too upset. I'm definitely going to leave valks alone as I just won't use them for farming. Looking forward to TH9(mainly for the AQ and witch).

IMO gathering resources (Dark or elixir) for researches in lab is very easy.
the problem is time. they are very time consuming.
I manage to do researches for my farming BAM and th8 war. BK will be lvl10 in 2 days.
After entering to TH8 I upgrade LAB and after that First I did archer lvl5 then dragon lvl3.
Tomorrow dragon lvl3 will be finished then i want to do minions lvl3 and it will takes 6 days! and after that maybe finally barbs lvl5 or minions lvl4.

time is a big problem.

upgrade hog to lvl 4 and minion to lvl 4 leave golem and valkyrie lvl 1

it depends on you and the troops ( u use currently) and you future plan.

my advice, regardless of ur plan, is to max (minion, hog) if you can.

Im going to TH9 in a few weeks as all my defences are maxed out.
I war pretty actively.
Maxed Golems and Minions.. Valks im not doing... Id love to do Hogs (still at lvl 1) but dont think Ill sit with empty builders for so long.
So ill have to stick to Dragons, Gowipe and Loonion till I get the Witches and Lavas at TH9.
Hopefully wont miss Hogs too much.

Without a doubt upgrade at least golem and hog to max th8 level before moving on. If u can stand the wait, minion and Valk to. Not many folks use valks, but if u get the to their max level at th9, they are monsters. Definitely golems and hoggs, as u will use one or the other of these troops for almost any ground based war attack at th9

I would try to have hogs or golems maxed and mins lvl 3. Again, this is more to do with your ability to be effective in war. If you don't care about war, then just focus on minions and BK.

I suggest not doing goblins waste of time when you could be upgrading spells or De troops

When I was TH 8, I just maxed Minions and Golems. I never used hogs or valks anyways.
