Defenses with 'favourite targets'?

So it came up in my clan that all defenses have the same layout when it comes to clicking the 'info' icon. I don't know about other players, but i personally never look at this other than to check the DPS of a tower, for example. However, a new player to the game joined our clan and pointed out a fact that we, as 'experienced' clashers, quickly disclaimed.

He asked if tesla towers target pekkas more often than other troops, or not.

He painted a scenario where if there was a group of say 20 barbarians, with 1 pekka, would the tesla tower single out the pekka since its it's 'favourite target'.
The scenario doesn't seem that far fetched (through the eyes of a new player). I mean you start a new game and you read pretty much everything but, as a veteran clasher, we pretty much assume we know most; if not everything.

This obviously started a discussion as to whether or not other defenses should have 'favourite targets'. Looking at it - but never taking much notice - all defenses have a 'favourite target' slot on their info but all say 'any'. Apart from the giant bomb, which does bonus damage to hogs, poor guys..

This would change the game entirely, which i don't think it needs, but others seem to think this game could do with something game changing again. Yes war was fun..was, now it's just the same thing over..and over. Maybe tournaments will be introduced but, either way, war will still be the same.

I personally don't think defenses should have a favourite target, ignoring other troops to focus on another if it's in radius, but mayyybeee picking a defense to favour heroes as a target wouldn't be such a bad idea?

Yes, the PEKKA will be priorized and will be shot at first.

• Although the Hidden Tesla prioritizes P.E.K.K.As, if it is attacking another troop and a P.E.K.K.A enters its range, it will not attack the P.E.K.K.A until the troop it is attacking is destroyed.

Nope...teslas attack nearest troop until it is dead....they just do double damage to pekka...

Noooooo!

My AQ has enough problems as it is. She genuinely believes that the Air Defense could do some serious damage to her. Why else would she chose to ignore the inferno frying her and take out the AD instead?

What defense do you think should target the heroes?

If i had to pick i think it'd have to be a point defense? I'd go with cannon since an xbow/inferno would be too OP, splash doesn't do much damage to heroes anyway and archer towers, being able to attack air, would become quite powerful as a result.

Wrong, In addition to doing double damage, they will attack a pekka in range even if its not the closest attacker

Haha not a defense that targets heroes exclusively. Just in the same way that a tesla targets a pekka; its prefered target. It would still hit all other troops the same, just when a hero enters its radius would it favour attacking the hero instead. :)

So lets say a golem and a pekka are heading towards a tesla tower, from 2 different sides, and assuming they BOTH enter its radius at the SAME time, the tesla would hit the pekka first, EVERYtime?

I have rewatched some of my replays of my attacks tonight. The queen is taken out far more by cannons and archer towers than other defense. they have a long range and can easily reach her. I'm not sure that would balance the game. When my AQ is successful in an attack she usually has a few giants acting as shields. This allows her to attack other defenses at range whist they are targeting something else. If she is on her own or cannons and / or archer towers specifically target her she would die far to easily to be useful - even at Lvl 20.

The king.... well he gets stuck on premmie walls so anything kills him really. Perhaps I'm using him wrong.

I love this idea! I feel like cannons have no real purpose other than being extra point defenses right now. They do less damage than ATs, have less health, and only target ground. Having them prioritize heroes would give them a niche and make them a very important part of every base. In my eyes it would be similar to the AD in the sense that it isn't always great, but it has a niche that makes it crucial to every defender. I think this would be great!

A solid point. Although the queen can do a lot of damage, like wizards, she can't take much in return, so maybe if when a cannon is locking on to her its damage is halved, or atleast reduced? Maybe that's more of a balance.

Glad there's people on both sides! Cannons are by far and away the one defense we could probably afford to lose. this would definitely take it back up the ranks. More respect for cannons!
It'd affect high level players in master 1+ leagues just as much as the lower leagues so that's why i'd quite like the idea.

EDIT: Only reason I can see not to add this is that it would cause even more people to complain how "attacking is impossible" and "I payed money for my heroes! You've nerfed them so much they're useless! I want my money back!" Other than that, I see no good reason not to add this feature! (And even that isn't a good reason)

No, I disagree and I do 1-3 gowipes a day. Furthermore, if it is the exact same time your eye can probably not tell exactly who entered first. I have also seen a tesla target a closer golem when a pekka was still within range. You can try it yourself in the goblin wars...just drop a ton of barbs on a tesla, like 50, then drop a pekka and watch when the pekka becomes the target. It certainly is not when it first enters the teslas attack circle....

Incorrect. They DO do double damage to pekkas, but they also prioritize them. However, if it is targeting another troop, be it a barbarian, giant, or even a dragon, it will attack that until the troop dies, the tesla is destroyed, or it goes out of range. Then it attacks the pekka.

What are you disagreeing with, the question? But in regards to what everyone else has said it obviously wont target the pekka straight away, it would have to kill its current target first. Basically defences target the closest unit, and don't ever switch target, teslas vs pekka supersedes the distance and would target pekka regardless, other than that it is the same.

I never disagreed about the double damage. I think everyone knows that part. I disagreed that a tesla will attack a pekka if another troops is closer. If a golem and pekka are both approaching a tesla and the golem enters range first, the tesla will attack the golem and not switch to the pekka when it enters the tesla range. It will stay on the golem until the golem splits, and then will attack the next closest troop. I think that is where we maybe disagree?

A test is to drop like 50 barbs on a tesla and then a pekka and see when the pekka is targeted....

Say we have 50 barbs and a pekka, and the group of barbs enters the range first, closely followed by the pekka. The tesla will begin by targeting the first troop that enters its range - in this case a barbarian. Once the barbarian dies, it retargets and prioritizes the pekka. A defense will never ignore a troop that it can hit, and it will never switch targets as long as the troop is alive and in range, but defenses that have favorite targets (e.g. teslas) will prioritize their favorite target as soon as their first target is dead or out of range.

This is correct, which is not what I thought...so I was wrong. The tesla will not switch until the troop it is attacking is dead, but then it will choose pekka over other troops.

I did my test on rolling terror in goblin wars. I dropped like 50 barbs near the tesla and then a pekka, sure enough they started zapping the pekka as soon as the barb they were attacking died....which was when the pekka was just barely in their range...
