One of the rule is you not allow to bump
But the problem is when your theard get buried to the second page but left unanswered
You will never get an answer if you don't bump it
they could change the rule that you can bump only once if it is unanswered
People do check more than the first page... Well, I'd hope so. I personally check 5-8 pages, and when digging deep, up to 20 when looking for an old thread.
I hate to say this, since it is about going against the policy of no bumping, but there are times when some bumping is needed. Just that it needs to be done rarely, and tactfully if possible.
One way to bump, but yet not bump, a thread is to save your reply to a thread until later; maybe even a day or two later, in hopes of some activity. If you can afford to wait, you can use a legitimate comment to your thread to 'bump' it back up. This is more of a posting strategy, than an actual bump, so it is good, as far as I can tell.
When posting again after you are the last one to post on the thread, making some comment that lacks the word, or implication of 'bump', can be snuck in. For example, last word or complants on a thread that seems to have gone dead might work as a sneaking bump, if done right. Mind you, they need to be done sparingly. So far I haven't been called out for bumping my threads this way, even 2 week old ones, so it works to some degree. It is still awkward though, since I know it is against policy, and I know people's thoughts on bumping. But keeping those in mind, I just play it by gut feel. After such a bump, and still no activity, thread is dead. Can't really revive it without ticking people off. Maybe with someone else's help, but that's yet again another judgement call.

Bumping your thread just to get people to look at an idea which many have disagreed upon is, in my opinion very wrong.
In this sub forum, you HAVE TO bump your thread (if its good and you haven't gotten any negative remarks) so that the stupid DE zapping and elixir wall threads won't sit on top of it.
I personally check as far as 3 pages.
true, If you just go bumpety bump bump it's not cool however if you add or reply to your thread expanding your idea that would pushi it back up - use a bit of tact - a couple of mine are still unanswered, I guess they are things people aren't interested in, anyhow what's your new idea ;)

One thing to look at is the number of views. if you have only a couple views or something like that then perhaps your post did get pushed back too fast (which is ironically the reason bumping needs to be avoided). But if 20+ people have viewed your post and not one of them felt it was worth their time to respond, that's an answer the OP should just accept.
