gem spawn rate? gemmers and trying not to be one, does any one do that?

I do not get to play clash often. I know thats a relative term so I will say I make between 0 and 8 attacks a day.

I purchased gems one time. it was what ever you received for $5. At that time I didn't fully understand the game and had used all my gems frivolously so I spent the $5 to get a builder. Then I immediately regretted it and wished I had done everything without purchasing gems. I'm trying hard to stick to that now.

Since then I have made it to an almost fully maxed out level 8 th. I used to spend some of my gems for boosts but have stopped that practice because I want to slog my way to 2000 gems for my 5th builder. I currently have 1479 gems. at the rate I'm getting gems it looks like I will get 2000 in about 8 months. Seems like forever. I'm going nuts just waiting the 8 days for one of my AD to get to level 5 so 8 months seems like a very very long time.

So thats my story and where I'm at.

so first off:
is gem spawn increased if you have everything cleared? the reason I ask is I thought it would be neat to have my whole base lined with pine trees. I have 38 pine trees at the moment. all in the rough grass at the edge by the forest. looks nice but is it slowing down the spawning of other stumps and mushrooms and what not? Is there a limit to how much will spawn?

and second;
Is there any actual prestige in not buying gems or was that just my imagination playing tricks on me so long ago? Just wondering if anyone takes pride in not buying gems? I'm not talking about being a cheep skate or just plain poor. I mean a conscious effort to be one of the people who slowly builds his way up with out just short cutting the way with cash.
does any one do that or is it just me?

1) there is a cap of 40 obstacles, and as you approach that cap (like you have) obstacle spawn rates slow down
2) there's nothing wrong with gemming, after all gemmers are what make the game free (plus I seriously doubt there's anyone on this forum who hasn't bought any gems at all ever)

The obstacle spawn rate will decrease as your base gets more filled, but you should think about trying to get some achievements to help you get to 2000 faster. As for pride, some people feel that way but for me it's more that I enjoy the game without buying gems and don't think they'd add to my enjoyment (plus the wanting to save money, of course).

I'm glad top see some one has not purchased gems. And thank you for explaining the max number of obstacles. I did not know that. the tree thing happened over time so I wouldn't have noticed the slowing of obstacle spawning.

Looks like I can either have gems or my pretty pine tree boarder but not both

I'll start chopping trees as soon as a builder is ready

clash is a really great game for one that's free, and I like it more than some of the games on sale for $60

If you're in Australia, iTunes have the send gift option, I will send you $5 so you can pay for your last builder, purely because I respect someone who has hurled it out this long. Cause 8 months for 600 gems is ridiculous.

I've only spent $25 on CoC for gems.
I paid for 2900 gems.
I'm not an extreme gemmers, but I occasionally get iTunes gift cards.

I haven't bought gems and never will. Gemming your way to the top seems such a waste of a good game in my opinion, I prefer to actually play the game and earn my base.

No, but $30 or even $60 for a mobile game looks a bit high to me.

Angry Birds, Where is my Water?, Cut the Rope, Osmos, ... all in the $5 to $10 price range. Heck, even Infinity Blade I/II/III are way below $10.

I already spent about $20 on CoC for my account and another $20 for my son (fair is fair, "I can progress faster because I can spend money while you can't" was a message I'd really not send to my child).

So I'm not going to spend any more. 5 builder's huts - check. 2000 gems waiting for reaching champ's - eventually. The weekly income from obstacles is enough to boost one or two times a week.

I do not oppose the idea of paying for a game, I already did - in fact I own all the titles mentioned above. But some amounts that people invest seem pretty ridiculous to me. Of course all that money is entirely theirs to spend ;)

Ill start off by saying I Have spent money 50$ of my money and 100$ in Xmas gift cards. How is paying not earning your base? I have played for 9 months. Play on average 2 hours a day and have a mid level TH9. I have earned my base!! Just cause I have a little more disposable income to spend does not mean that I do not earn it.

It's comments like this that cause threads like this, and create a bigger gap between those that gem hardcore, casually and not at all, stop being negative about how people choose to spend THEIR money, you may have a hobby which you spend loads on, be it owning a games console or collecting stamps, may seem like a waste of money to some but not to all.

Back on topic, I buy gems, mostly for boosting barracks for DE farming atm, and sometimes I will gem a few days on a hero upgrade. I work hard for my money, and can rack up a fair few days worth of work in a week, if I choose to spend the money I have earned to do something I consider a hobby, which yes after 2 1/2 years of playing I do very much so then that's my choice, around about a year and half ago, two years, I stopped purchasing video games at full price, and eventually stopped buying as many, and since I would buy gems here and there.

I spend a lot less money on gaming than I have done, maybe not equipment did purchase the iPhone 6 outright, got to clash in style right!

Most people that don't spend any money on clash but play a lot usually are not able to buy the gems, to young, to skint, or have other priorities in life, and usually these are the haters, I know been there myself, back in my early days.

I don't consider this money to wasted, iv had and still are having fun, don't feel you have to follow a trend of play style just because you feel you should, have fun and do what you want!

Edit: yes spawn rate is affected by the amount of free space on your village and the amount of obstacles already. So move your base to one side and have more open space to increase spawn rates, also achievements, which reward gems, and high amount of gems which are relatively new addition, making acquiring gems for none payers a lot easier! Have a look and see what's left to do!

Ask yourself... 8 months or $5 for 500? Yeah. Next time you're getting a coffee, or a burger, or whatever - just think is that as wonderful as waiting 8 months for a builder?
