It's time to say something

I have been a fairly active player for about a month now and have hit level 55 pretty quickly, spending a small amount on gems each week.
I have also spent a lot of time reading this forum, though have never felt the need to post, only read. Until now.
Supercell, can you not see that the feedback from a large % of players is getting progressively more negative with each update? I know it would be a bad business decision to be responding to all this negative feedback with constant replies, but from what I can see, there is basically no replies to any negative statements anymore (and their is many of them).
This would all be made ok, if you just gave us one post, with a bit of acknowledgement that these updates just maybe didn't have the desired effects that you originally planned for the top end players (not that i even consider myself one, but it is very concerning seeing them all feel so cheated by this game).
And at the end of the day, i understand that matchmaking in this game is no easy task to perfect, and this game is a work in progress. But you have now created a game that originally appears to gauge skill on trophy count, until you reach the conclusion the hard way that it is basically pointless to build any sort of trophy level until your base is maxed. Aiming for trophies before that point, is doing nothing but slowing down your progress to upgrade your base. Anybody that disagrees with this is moronic and doesnt understand the game.

You guys keep saying that you want to make the matchmaking more fair, and challenging at the same time. But I just dont understand how you can watch such a large % of the game community trophy dump as the only viable way to collect resources. That is not fun.... There should be more resources available WHERE IT IS NEEDED, and that is up the top. Not down the bottom.
Rant over. Now i can continue being a silent viewer of the forum now that I have gotten that off my chest.

you say a large % of players are giving negative feedback. then you say they are "at the top", and dumping trophies to get resources.

maybe you didnt read the forums as much as you thought. the only complaint the top players had before the last patch was unable to find village to attack. the only complaint from them after the patch was the clan castle getting one shot by the santa spell.

one is only a "top player" after they have maxed bases and walls and are in the top50. the rest of us are all bottom feeders, and thats where the complaints are coming from.

I see alot of very filled storages at top20. anywhere below that is not top.

Forgive me for not being more specific. When i say top players i mean base level, not trophy level.
I see so many people complaining about the matchmaking. But not that they cant find bases to attack, it;s that they cant find bases WORTH attacking to counteract the large troop costs and gold costs to find matches. Thus, resulting in everybody farming until they max their base.

Each update resources are being nerfed or hard to gain. But they aren't gone. Just hard and slower to obtain. I agree about the fact that you have to dump trophy to get them for a TH9 owner and now they made it none worthy hard to hit zero trophy. Something really wrong is happening about resources. But things are still achievable. Hust gets slower and slower everytime. Can't be mad.

I don't see how they are killing the game. I actually think they are catering too much to baseless whining.

People got all sore from the santa-nuke (which is freaking awesome) and they nerfed it's effectiveness on Clan Castles in less than 24 hours of it being the focus of butt-hurtedness. Then they whined about how "omg now it just takes more to kill clan castles!"

Screw all that. The game still rocks. I'm having fun annihilating bases and can't wait until the next update. I don't need a "have a great weekend on FB" sign to keep me going or know who the top 3 clans are-because it never changes significantly.

The matchmaking changes we made were indeed quite big. As we've changed a fundamental system of which players were already used to, we knew we would get a lot of feedback. Unfortunately, we can't answer all feedback one to one. I've been on these forums writing some posts over the last week, but these tend to get buried quite fast.

But still, these changes were needed. The old system didn't scale with the current number of players, which lead to worse and worse performance of the servers during peak hours. After the new matchmaking went live, we've been seeing quite good performance, which basically means better gameplay experience for ALL of our players. So on the technical side, the matchmaking was a great success, as Borat would say it.

About the quality of matches; When we went live, the matchmaking tried to match you with other players in your trophy range quite narrowly. We've already once loosened that range in order to give a bit more diversity to the matches (check this). We're now going over the data from the weekend's battles and will make more adjustments if needed. While this might feel like it's moving slow, it's better to take some time, collect and analyse data and then adjust the values.

Also, in the future versions we're looking into ways to make the trophies be more desirable. Clash of Clans is still far from complete and we've got some pretty awesome stuff coming up ;)

Threads are read , re read, mulled over, discussed then if its something that the tech nerds and project leads are able to do , then Bam, it's maintenance break time.

Aside from the items that won't make it in game, using gems to remove a segment of wall. Most, and I use that term liberally are awesome ideas , just they don't fit in the vibe of clash.

A vast majority of all complaints have been about the lack of resources available. From what I've seen and experienced as an extremely active player, I definitely agree. I have yet to see any really constructive or viable plan from SC or even much discussion on how this problem can be fixed or adjusted, except "wait a week" etc. From what I've seen, the problem is getting worse every day with less and less available. Anyway, a way of getting a reasonable amount of resources for the time u put into the game is what we are all looking for. At this point, everything else seems a distant second.

Firstly, thanks Rauta for the prompt response. And i will agree with you on the technical side of things. For me anyway, the new matchmaking is much faster and the available trophies is higher. It is great to hear that you guys are focusing on more incentives to collect trophies. Seeing as you like constructive posts (im sure its a breath of fresh air in amongst all the "fix the game or ill quit" posts lol), id just like to give my two cents worth one more time.
For me when i started the game I got great enjoyment out of getting my trophies as high as i could, early on. WHen i realised that farming was the better way to advance my clan, i dropped to the 500-900 mark, where i found resources satisfying to farm (i was around level 28) and the joy of getting such large amounts of gold+elixer was enough to make up for not gaining trophies. I am now level 55 and have experimented with other trophy ranges, and to my disappoinment, that same trophy range is still where i manage to get the most resources.
It used to be a fair fight, and now it really isnt. It would be much more enjoyable to have the incentive to climb to a trophy range where there is both challenging fights, AND resources to gain. Im sure you already have an idea of this, and you did mention incentives to gain trophies are on the way (for all i know you may have the solution to the problem), but my suggestion is something like this:
As your TH level and base level gets higher, the amount of resources you get from fights is determined by a few factors:
a) the amount of resources your opponent has
b) the gap in level and TH level between you and your opponent (greater gap = greater challenge and higher risk/reward)
c) your trophy level (there would be many options on how to factor it in, but some examples would be that your maximum resources gained goes up when you hit certain trophy levels, or say between 1000-1100 trophies you get a bonus 25k gold/elixer per win, and 1100-1200 you get a bonus 30k per win etc. This would work better now that the matchmaking matches you to closer levels to yourself.

Anyway thats my ideas, thanks for the efforts you guys put into the game, with the amount of updates coming out lately im sure with a few more tweaks we can make everyone happy :)

We're also looking into the loot, but we'd rather not make any changes to the actual way that loot is now handled. As I've stated earlier, we didn't make any changes to looting with the new version, so the effect you are seeing is a product of the changed matchmaking. The solution should be found by making adjustments to the matchmaking. We'd rather not make changes to the looting at this point, as the system worked quite nicely with the old matchmaking, and changing that might lead to more problems.

How can they make Trophies become more desirable?


Answer: Increased Loot

Thats the only answer i think that will be acceptable.

Rantu thank you for the post these are exactly what the community needs some sort of update so we know whats going on and why.

Hey guys, by no means do i know anything about making a game but we all have the inbox on our screen while playing COC, is there anyway that when updates are happening or maintenance breaks we could get a message in our in box, other than seeing who attacked you or sent invites if your clanless it seems to be a useless area. This would give everyone in the community who doesn't frequent forums or Facebook to have up to date info. Appreciate the responses from supercell but it only is seen by limited viewers.
the biggest fault of any company wether business world or in this case gaming is communication, it can make or break anything. I fully believe that half people's complaints on these forums is do to lack of education on changes, although these forums are easily accessible by Internet connection most people other than the dedicated don't take time to search for all information. As Ruata said his posts get buried quickly, an email response to all users could easily remedy this and take out the communication failures or breakdowns or at least give us something to talk about when we see "you got mail". Just a thought hope its well received, makes sense to me but again I don't know anything about programming.

Your major fallacy here is thinking that the forum or even Facebook represents a large % of players. It does not. Also every update brings different people with different concerns. The same people complaining about resources this time are not the same people that were complaining about resources when the loot limits were instituted.

What you have here is a relatively small number of different people with each update complaining loudly about different things.
