Troop tweaks
As a new TH9 player, I realize that my opinion for the idea I am going to present is probably a little uninformed, but I have an idea to extend the life of the game for TH9 and 10. Keep in mind that not all the values will be exact and everything would be modifiable, but I would like to give an outline at least.
This idea is simple. Once you reach TH9 or 10, as moderated by those in charge, your laboratory could be used for minor improvements on individual attributes of each troop. For example, once you have maxxed out Giants (I do not have values for their attributes as mine are still L5) you may spend another 5 million elixir to upgrade their DPS or Health, which would also automatically adjust the cost. These upgrades could also be instantaneous, so as to allow for flexibility. A sample increase would be a mere 3 DPS increase or 25 HP increase. However, the cap on this type of leveling is much higher, so a player could spend 100 million elixir in total and have Giants with either 1400 HP or 65 DPS, with adjusted Cost as well. This would give players the option to customize each troop's specific attributes to suit their play style, while also netting Supercell more income from players who have capped nearly everything and have nothing more to spend. These troop upgrades might also have caps, but they would be higher than the current caps, and one could only upgrade a troop a certain number of times. These "merit points", if you will, would be exchangeable between the same troop's stats for another fee, say 1 million per point. This would help Supercell to make a lot more money and help give players a sense of personalization in their game!

Seems too complicated. It's much simpler and easier to have just 16 different types of troops instead of having hundreds of combinations for this idea. It would also imbalance gameplay by giving Offense a considerable buff.

Obviously defense is going to be tweaked to be improved eventually as they add something new, like they did with Lvl12 Archer Towers, this would just be a suggestion to match the offense side of the game to the defense.

Do you hear yourself? 5m elixir for some health or stats?
and this would create a large power imbalance on offensive side.
