TH8 itching to upgrade to th9, however I would like your feedback and tips.

Hello and thank you for for clicking on my post.
I am a TH8 who is itching to go to th9. However, after seeing so many different opinions on when to upgrade to th9, I am unsure what is the best way to go about it, whether I max everything or upgrade a few things and go to th9.
For the past 3 weeks or so, TH8 has been so boring, watching gem boxes grow has been more enjoyable.

Here are a few stats about my base/account

• TH8, lvl 81
• 210 mil gold grab
• 176 mil elixir escapade
• All defenses maxed in 4 days, final tessla upgrades are finishing.
• 225 lvl 8 walls
• All elixir troops maxed for th8, except pekka, which is still lvl 2. I never use pekkas so i havent really worried about them.
• Minions lvl 3, hogs going to lvl 2. Valks and Golems have not been unlocked yet.
• 3 lvl 10 barracks, 1 lvl 9 barracks.
• Bk going to lvl 8.
• All gold mines are lvl 10 except one is lvl 11
• All elixir drills are lvl 9 except one is lvl 10.
• 2 de drills are lvl 3.

When do you think I should go to th9? And what do you think I should upgrade before th9?

I'm the same as you almost maxed th8, (15 walls to go and 2 barracks) I'd say max everything before going to th9 a few of my clan mates rushed to th9 (all defences done but not barracks or walls ) and are regretting it now. But I know the feeling been itching to lvl up for awhile now :)

Finish upgrading everything you haven't done yet. Those barracks and collectors are a must. It's just more effort to do them once you hit TH9 where resources are tougher to come by. You have to upgrade every single thing you can as it'll help you compete at a higher town hall.

Go up. Research pekkas during the 10 day upgrade. Your walls are maxed and there is no longer a reason to stay in TH8.

Edit: Try to unlock valks and golems in 1 of your Dark barracks as well during the Th upgrade

Totally wrong. You will be a massive premmie and won't be able to compete at TH9. Stay where you are. Max everything and then move on. You won't regret it.

Lol, I moved up with TH7 defenses and 170 skulls 40-50days ago. Now I'm a TH9 with 130 legos. He has no more dumps in resources, so its better to move up. Defenses are useless in this game anyway.

If I had the chance to reset, I would not have upped my Xbows to lvl1

In terms of farming and being able to protect your loot, you're in great shape for townhall 9. Archer queen, lvl 6 giants, xbows, and extra troops all put a lot more fun into the game.

If you want to do well in clan wars, I think you are a little short of options for strong armies. Dragons aren't very good any more once you have to go up against other townhall 9s with 4 air defenses, and dragons are pretty much all you have.

You are going to need strong hogs, golems, witches, or lava hounds to unlock the new 3-star armies, so start working on your dark barracks. I wouldn't worry too much about actually maxing your dark troops before upgrading the townhall, though. It's easier to get de at th 9.

I know it sucks when you want to move up. One thing I will tell you, is that having your regular barracks maxed is a must. Why not finish it now?

And I'd strongly suggest maxing your dark barracks as well.

As for mines and pumps, mine are lower level than yours and they have never bothered me any.

To maximize your builders time your barracks to be done the same time as your townhall.

Thanks for the link. I have read the guide and decided to go to th9 once my barracks and dark barracks are maxed. which will take about 2 weeks or so.

I would like to thank you all for replying. I have taken your replies into consideration and decided to go to th9 once i max my barracks and dark barracks, along with my bk. this should take about 2 weeks or so, and i can do mines/ pumps with spare builders along the way.

What is your goal in this game?

Do you only use one specific farming army?
Do you only use one specific War army?
Do you only use one specific army for pushing?

If your answer to the last 3 questions are yes, then of course you would be bored with TH8. You don't use pekkas, you haven't unlocked golems or valks and your hogs are around level 2 this leads me to believe that your life in CoC revolves around the following:

Barch/Bam for farming
Variation of either mass dragons, dragloons and/or loonions for war
And no fun random raid army that you cook overnight


If this was all I ever did at TH8 I too would be bored. But ask yourself this have you really explored all there is to explore in TH8?

Near the end of TH8 I used; WiVaPe, WiPe, GoWiPe, HoWiPe, massed hogs and Hogs & drags, in addition to the abovementioned armies at top (these were overnight armies and after work armies that would be used in between barch farming session), this increased my enjoyment of TH8 immensely.

Giants, my friend, Giants.

They can lay waste to any TH's you want to demolish, including their oh-so-protected-storages :rolleyes:

At TH8 due to the broken elixir for walls situation you should move up immediately once you have all your out of lab elixir upgrades done.

We are now in a completely stupid situation where the TH8s have massive excess of elixir so will be sat on full tanks for 80% of the time they spend at this level.

TH7 and below have a very good balance of things to spend gold on and things to spend elixir on.

TH8 (in particular) and above all have many more items needing gold than elixir ( for TH8 110 million gold v 67 million elixir), not including walls. So 2/3 the amount.

With walls costing another 128 million gold to max (which I am not going to). This means assuming that gold and elixir are earned at about the same rate that TH8s have an excess of 171 million elixir, when only 67 million is need in total!

It is all very simple maths.

What this means is that by staying at TH8 and maxing your walls you are losing 171 Lego walls that could be done at TH9.

im almost fully maxed out..

i need:
Elixir Collectors to level 12 (all 11 now)
Gold mines to level 12 (all 11 now)
Lab upgrades:
Pekkas
heal spell
rage spell
hog riders
valkyres.

then i'm maxed th8 :)
got level 10 bk and all walls and defences maxed and other buildings but resources..

Elixir for walls should never have been implemented at TH7, 8 or even 9 (although I am a beneficiary of the latter) Lots of people got their walls done with gold prior to the update (myself included and I didn't have any issue that you speak of)

So armies no longer cost elixir to make? Cook up expensive armies for when you know you will be away from the game over 2-3 hours, use that elixir for fun, don't be all about efficient farming, you make this game sound like a job that you have to do efficiently.

I completely agree, the major issue is elixir being able to be spent on legos. Even tho this hurts my progression it is a change that is needed.

You say you didn't have any issue. Look at the maths above and tell me you didn't have an excess elixir issue. It is very easy to deny these problems once you have moved on.

For clarification I am now TH9 but still think this needs fixing.

I cook up full dragon armies with 3 spells 3 times a day. Then after a raid or 2 am completely full on elixir. The issue at Th8 is that there are 2 gold upgrades on most of the defenses and very little to spend elixir on.

TH8s should not be used as a crutch to try and solve the elixir problem of TH10s when TH9s can just dump all that excess elixir into walls.

As an example of this I have been TH9 for about 2 hours and already have 2 lego walls + 1 extra skull and all my builders busy. Leaving nothing for TH10s to attack.

Without reading any of the stats, just your opening sentence, the answer is:

UPGRADE NOW!

You are bored of being a th8, the game is not fun, and the TH upgrade takes ages anyway.

If its not fun anymore, then quitting that TH or the game in general are the only real options.

Umm, focus gold maybe? If you focus on gold then you won't have elixir overflow late TH8. And if you do, just farm DE and storages with it higher up.

There is also very little to spend DE on at TH8 I had my BK chain upgrading and my lab doing solely DE upgrades once I had my barch done.

Id say move up, th 9 loot doesnt seem to be much worse than th 8. My friend who rushed to th 9 seems to be farming walls at the same rate as me. If you ever want to have max walls, staying and maxing the rest of your stuff will make it take longer as elixir is being wasted when you have nothing to spend on.

You people are heathens! You must MAX everything before you upgrade.

Currently a th8 Lvl 75about midway through upgrades, if my base looked like the op's, then I would have a tough time resisting the temptation. The one thing that would stop me, I want to be able to enjoy a maxed th8 base and not have to continuously farm for the next upgrade

Lol. Everyone is quite aware of your maxing predilection, but to some that just isn't what is fun for them.
It is even debatable whether it is the most efficient way, because of wasted elix, and builder/lab days hours.

Admittedly, it is the EASIEST way because of penalties.

If the guy is bored, then brow-beating them into an extra couple of weeks isnt fun for anyone.

go on man.. althought, your main troops for farming and warring seems max too so ... no need to stuck behind if it itch you seriously.. you won't regret it (or maybe because of the elixir scarcerity but still) not a big deal

I would say do your dark barracks because you will need to unlock witches at th9 as soon as possible for cw .upgrade that pekka too but I have only done gowipe twice in my entire coc life and im max def th9 grinding out lavas . only use goho or hogs that is why im saying get golems at th8 and get witches as soon as at th9 .witches will help you 3 star th9 because gowiwi is stronger at th9 compared to gowipe

A) As if that is even remotely a bad thing.
2) He has maxed all his walls and defenses. I went to TH9 on my 2nd account with half pink walls and not a single point defense over lvl 6 (my teslas were lvl 1). Nothing but TH snipes on my base. Bahaha, "massive premmie" get the hell outta here lol.

Go to TH9. Sure, collectors are nice to have at lvl 12, but at this point you will need to commit 9 days of upgrading from your builder to get each collector to max. And it is apparent that you are a pretty hardcore farmer, so having your collectors maxed isn't as needed as you'll more than make up for the missing passive income when you're a TH9. Just do them gradually at TH9 when (or I should say if, haha) you hit slow patches or you go on vacation/breaks from playing the game.

With the way the elixir for walls system is set up, you probably should have went to TH9 weeks (months?) ago. TH9 is the golden TH for doing your collective wall progression regardless of level, but you're already at all skulls. Head on up and get that TH9 farming offense established.

I have a TH10 with all barracks only capable of making dragons, and a TH9 account that can only make up to healers (I would have stopped at wizards but I preferred the 5 added queueing capacity). Barracks are so not a must to max.

Try your best to get that bk to 10

Lol are you seriously trying to play that "just make more expensive armies" card, as if that does anything to curb the problem of overflowing elixir storages and not acknowledge what it actually does which is slow down your farming/raiding efficiency for both resources. That is a classic selfish TH9 move.

"You still have so many things to use your elixir on! Expensive armies! All 3 spells on every raid! Donate dragons to everyone! Dragons when made as a TH8 only take 5 min to cook and don't slow down your farming speed at all! Turn your elixir into gold by making stronger armies and hitting tougher gold storages, stop whining!" - all said while hypocritically dumping elixir directly into walls as a TH9

I would do it if I was you. I went to TH9 in November 3 months after I started as I had maxxed walls and BK. Now I have a level 22 queen and I'm 1/3 of the way to full lavas at level 92. So I have plenty of time to max walls and heros before it's time to go to TH10. I won't have to be one of those people who sit there with idle builders for months doing walls and heroes.

A guy in my first clan who started the same time as me has only just gone to TH9 despite maxxing his walls and bk two months ago because he insisted on maxxing every upgrade. So he's been sitting there with full storages upgrading his little bombs, elixir collectors etc whilst millions of gold, elix and DE go to waste. I have a massive head start on my Queen and walls now despite the fact that I don't play any more than he does. It's so stupid.

It seems like so many other people lower level than me are already ready for TH9...:mad:. Level 88.
Yep, true Kelly, everything should be maxed. But look at this.."Valks and golems have not been unlocked yet."
!!!! Terrible!!!! GoWiVa is very good, GoWiPe is good, GoWiWiPe is good (TH9 needed for witches), HoLoWiWi(TH9 also). My probably least favorite is P.E.K.K.As, but I know that I need to max everything out. Chances are you won't survive with only hogs and minions.

You're fine to upgrade now, but the things you're behind on will absolutely hinder you going forward if you do, because believe me you got plenty to do in th9 as is. Unlocking golems is a must, as you'll find them essential for a th9 in war.

Frankly I'd actually max everything, but hey that's just me. And that means everything, not most things. You've got a lot of dark work you could do.

Whatever you do FILL YOUR STORES including DE so the moment your TH upgrade finishes you can get those five builders going. Lab first. Then get labs going.
