I am so sick of matchmaking threads. So now I post one?
I have been really sick of these threads. As I gather SC has to choose between matches taking for ever to find a close match or shortening them by allowing it to select a less close match. And from what I see no matter which approach they go with I see the group that would have preferred the other approach lighting up the forums with their complaints. I myself have had no problem with it, I have never thought it perfect but it just wasn't wrecking my day. (which I have been criticized roundly for at time)
But what the heck, I will take a cut at it - What if we allowed folks to pick their poison. Have a button on the clan info page (leader and CO access like the others) that toggles between "Shorter search" and "Closer match".
- Shorter search - This would be like today. You hit start, it tries for a bit, if no match it widens that gap and tries again, and so forth until it gets one. it is not a guaranteed 'Short' search, but it does allow it to get less picky rather than wait for someone closer to declare war.
- Closer Match - This will work like the above when you hit the start button, but never widen the search no matter how long it takes. A person choosing this one should be willing to wait a very long time for their matchup. Waits of several hours will not be unheard of, possibly common. it will all depend on what other clans are requesting war at that time.
The button is only read right at start of search. if it is pressed after that the difference is not counted until the start of the next search. (So if you start a search saying closer match and get impatient you can swap the setting. But you need to stop and restart the search for it to take effect)
There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to both choices, and this will not make things work any better, just let people choose which set of advantages and disadvantages they live with.
it will not help with the people that want to have their cake and eat it too. But for those folks nothing will.
Just to clarify this thread is NOT to question the fairness of matchmaking. I am of the contingent that thinks it is fair in the end (the game giveth and the game taketh away) so no beefs there.
This is instead just an attempt to appease a least a decent portion of the folks that then come here ticked off to open threads and then argue with everyone that does not see it their way.
My motivation is actually just to have fewer of those threads starting up.
