I love it when people try to use logic to back up their ideas. You don't like that the BK need a builder to upgrade because its unrealistic? I guess you don't like golems because rocks can't walk, and Skeletons can't hold bombs and run. And how does a pig jump over a wall the massive heroes can't hop over?
Don't use logic to make a point in a game as fictitious as clash

Ok everybody. When I said "why would it need a builder (continuity speaking) because they just drink Dark Elixer and sleep off the hangover" it was just a joke. I didn't realize how dry the forum police's sense of humor was... It is interesting how many people responded to slam on my idea because I added in a joke but nobody responded at all to the very first sentence of my post.
The main reason to not require a builder for heroes is because of the massive amount of cumulative time the 40 levels of upgrades needs. Any other buildings have much much less time required to max the building level for the respective town hall.
When a builder is tied up for 227 days and 12 hours (the cumulative time it takes to upgrade one hero to level 40) it requires you to take that builder time from somewhere else. And this amount of time is required for both heroes! For contrast the Hidden Teslas have a cumulative time of 59 days of build time to max out.
My point is that the huge imbalance between Heros upgrade time and the upgrade time of anything else in the game could be somewhat mitigated by not requiring a builder.
