Justin's idea for Clash of Smartwatches

NOTE: Read the whole thing before going down to post. I promise it sounds better than the title.
Also leave a rating and post your feedback to help me make this idea better!

Welcome to my new idea/project. Clash of Clans for Smar♥♥♥♥ches. Now that might sound crazy but read ahead and you'll see what it actually is.

I do know that this idea has been posted before, but I think mine is unique enough to get its own thread.

Apple Watch
Lets start with the one and the most obvious. The Apple Watch

Apple Watch has several types of “applications”. They all run together on the Apple Watch.
Now my idea will cover all of these.

Let's start off with Actionable Notifications, these are quite self explanatory. They show up whenever you get a notification. Also with this you may see a few new notifications that I've added in due to the lack of variety in the current selection.

All of them have a dismiss button and a button to do an action related to the thing its notifying you about. You may see that its called Clash instead of Clash of Clans, thats because Clash of Clans doesn't fit in Apple's text templates.

There could be a lot more, heres a list of some of the Actionable Notifications.
Maintenance Break, Up ahead!
Your troops are ready for battle!
Your spells are ready!
Your shield is about to run out!
Your King is ready for battle!
Your Queen is ready for battle!
Your clan has started a war!

Next up is Glances.
Glances are well "glances" at information from an app on Apple Watch. It was a little difficult getting clash information to fit in the few Apple guidelines there are, but I did figure out a few 'glances' that would fit with Clash of Clans.

These aren't the greatest examples but these were the only ones I could figure out.

And last is the app.
When you open it up, you get your latest notification on screen

For example this pane shows that your pumps are full and lets you clear them.
And another that shows your latest defence win/loss with amount of loot stolen, percentage and some other handy info

There could also be panes like this where you can request troops and even view clan chat. When your leader sends you mail, you can read it on your watch. And if you are the leader you can send mail too!

Congrats! This is a very unique idea that Im pretty sure would have never been conceived by anyone else!
I like it a lot! especially with all the detail that you have put into it. My only concern is eye strain at such a small screen. The images provided all give info for expanded screens, im guessing full control of the base (Ie full base view and attacking) would be left to a larger device?

Thanks and yes, all major features are left off to the phone. Its more of a notification/control panel for your base.

Awesome implementation of the idea on COC on watch. I've seen a few suggestions for this without much explanation, misleading people of thibking that you can play COC on the wach.

Notificarions are great! But I don't like the idea about collecting collectors on the watch since you can collect them without going online and leave raiders with an empty collectors.

This is literly the best idea I have read all day.

Thanks for the positive feedback! The collectors pane will only show once all the collectors are full which I think will limit the use.

This an absolutely terrible idea that doesn't have much to do with the game, it would be a great way for supersell to suck some more money out of fools so I am sure they will love it.

It would be a free feature for any Apple Watch owner. It helps people by letting them get updates on clash without taking their phone out. You can do things like request troops and check up on your war or clan.

Try the watch for yourself with an app you use that uses the watch for notifications.

I love this idea! If the widgets thing doesn't get implemented, this should!

I myself have no smar♥♥♥♥ch, but I still this that this is a great way to send notifications to the player.

One question-if a player has a smar♥♥♥♥ch can he disable notification on his phone/tablet, and just get notification via that smar♥♥♥♥ch?

First let me start of with positives. Fantastic idea and great presentation. I like your photoshop skills, very professional.

The problem is, why would Supercell invest so much to develop this? The development of the feature won't be easy nor cheap, and also doesn't add any addition methods or reasons to spend gems. Supercell is a business after all, right?

Since this is a premium feature which sole purpose is really for notifications, it should be a subscriber based app. Hell, if you can afford to get an Apple Watch, you could afford a subscription fee for these notifications. Maybe something along $5 a month subscription fee.

Otherwise, why invest so much for something that won't produce any new revenue?

Well you could say that for any app on Apple Watch, why would we develop this, this, and that if its going to be free?
Why do they develop the base layout feature if it doesn't directly make them money? Why do they spend time designing things like improved clan search if the current one works fine and that it doesn't make them anymore money from it?

Its to enhance the game-play experience for players, though I agree I could add more gem features which would make Supercell money.

Though it only took me around a day to make these mocks and the code is exactly the same as the code for iOS so I'd presume maybe a few days in Xcode and then a few days ironing out bugs and its done. No need to update it further like the game.

And BTW, just letting you know that Supercell made $892 million in 2013, no word on 2014 revenues but I expect higher.

I think justin is very into Clash of Clans technology that can be made from Clash... Not Clash the game itself XD

I tyhink these watches would be very expensive to make and not a lot of people would buy them... A lot of the people who play clash are kids-teenagers they probably wouldn't be able to buy it... It also seems like they could be very hard to make....

Would they actually tell the time? Or just Clash stuff...

Just letting you know that this is just an app on the Apple Watch

Like i said, i love the idea. Small updates are one thing but this is a whole new app they have to develop. If programming was a quick as you imply, why does it take months to get new content? What has the development team been doing for months if they can develop a new app in a week?

adding direct features that make you want to play more will... Well, make you play more and hopefully gem. This feature takes you somewhat Way from the game but is mostly for notifications. At least features that dont directly generate revenue generates more playing time. This does not.

I hope they do make it! But i think itd have to be a subscription based for it to be enticing enough to do it.

Its because the supporting infrastructure for it is all there right now. The graphics have been made and can easily be scaled. The push notification system that Apple Watch utilizes is identical to the iPhone's. The code is exactly the same as iOS.

If we were lets say add a new troop, you would need to do graphics, animate things. Decide hitpoints and a bunch of other stuff thats fairly boring.

Converting a game fully to another platform is very difficult, there are something called APIs that are used to make apps. They are different from platform to platform so you have to hire people that know them. Some devs only write for iOS and they need to learn if they want to write on Android or WP but with Apple Watch they already know how to program for it as it uses the same code as the iPhone and iOS.

You cannot make the comparison with re-making a whole game from scratch on a new OS with the making of a notification app that relies on its Phone counterpart for most things on an iOS that devs are very experienced with.

Well improved clan search doesn't exactly want me to play the game more does it? .

The Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth LE. No syncing required.

Again, great idea but I think my constructive criticism is warranted. I think its a great idea that they should consider, but I think they'd only consider it if it brought in a subscription revenue.

You're spectacular presentation has some us, the user, extremely well. Now you need to remember to sell Supercell on the idea too. I think showing an acceptance to a notion of a subscription fee could wet their appetite.

I think that both of our arguments have merit to them and that Supercell should make the final decision in this.

Omg, this is probably one of the best ideas I've been on the forums....well described and awesome pictures!. Plus I can actually imagine this being on Apple Watch. That would be so cool!

iWatch doesn't exist. That's a common name misconception. Apple makes the Apple Watch. And the circle one is the Moto 360 that runs on AndroidWear.

Just read all 4 pages of comments and wanted to chime in on the back and forth between the OP and Axion.

Personally, my views align very closely with Axion here. The mock ups are phenomenal and if implemented, this would be an awesome addition for clashers and yet another reason to justify my inevitable expensive Apple Watch purchase in a few months from now. Well done OP.

From a business perspective, there isn't enough here to sway SC into developing this. The return on investment just isn't there, unless there were something like a small subscription fee as proposed, but even then, I'm not sure they will make enough money back. If I had to make an educated guess, the percentage of clashers who will own Apple and Android smart watches in a few months will most likely be in the 5-8% range. A pretty small chunk. Then of those 5-8%, how many of them would be willing to pay 5 bucks a month for these alerts/updates? Say one out of every 4 of them. You're down to 1-2% of clashers worldwide.

The development, testing, and maintenance of this app (on both platforms) is going to cost a lot more than you think, OP. I realize a lot can be reused from existing code, but not everything is so plug-and-play. Especially considering some of the new unique alerts you're aiming to implement, as well as the functionality to request CC troops? You're no longer simply displaying/reading data, you're now writing to the database, which is a lot more involved than reading from it.

Thanks for sharing your idea with us, and hopefully SC can come up with a happy medium so everyone wins.

Maybe Supercell could take another look at this?

I have to say I love your presentation on your idea happy to see something different but I don't believe supercell would implement this. They haven't even added coc to windows phones because they aren't popular enough. Same with this gadget. Just my two cents.

I'm not in as in touch with the world outside clash as lots of other people, but I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't own Window's Phones. Correct me if I'm wrong.


It would be worth making if it was not as complicated, so:

Functions--notifications(Attacked, Troops, Upgrade Finished, Shield) and possibly castle request. No editing message.

Collectors full would be rather useless, you know? I love this idea! If it was easy and cheap enough(small company) then this would be a small edition for the watch.

Lots of work clearly went into this and i liked it. Don't have a smar♥♥♥♥ch and probably never will but loved the idea

With the Apple Watch being released this Friday, I thought this deserved a bump for new viewers who have not seen this thread. Regardless of how realistic the chances are of getting such notifications to your smart watch, to imagine it and read the OP's ideas/mock ups are just plain fun :thumbsup::cool:

It's nice to read a new idea that actually is thought out and impressive after weeding through multiple threads of "I think u should b able to donate loot to ur friends, post if you agree!" and "plz make more loot available supercell!". I don't know it'll ever happen, but props for your time!

By "fresh new ideas" do you mean,

OP Troops
OP Defenses
Game-Breaking Modifications

Because that's all your going to find, most of the time.

So how long did you spend on this exactly?
This is... I don't even...

And this is exactly why we need an api. So that developers other than supercell developers could work on this while the Supercell devs work on game features, and the community developers could work on something like this. But other than that you have my support! Great images and explanation!

Unique...I like it so far. But there are a few problems that stand in the any with the watch being so small.
