i reached masters yesterday after only my 2nd time of trying. i havent tried for over a year as i mainly just farm the loot bonus. i know it sounds daft that i didnt do it sooner as the bonus is 100k at masters but i justdidnt have the appetite.
my advise would be to not rush it. i came so close so many times, rushed it and lost then back down i went to 2580+. which at this range the 50% only give around 6 trophies.
i think you can do as long as you are cautious.

I sniped to masters with nothing but a barch army as a maxed TH7 to get the 1000 gems for my 5th builder. It is very doable and will only take a few days if you have the time to put into it. Just go in with a lot of gold since you will be nexting very often.

Severals very skilled players are able to arrive to Champion league (4000 trophies)
with Town Hall 5 .....
I would either snipe or use mass drags. Takes very little or no skill, but a lot of patience! And be prepared to play a lot!

You can't really attack anybody there as a TH7 or below unless it mass dragons and event then you are waiting for say 90 minutes to attack somebody you will probably not 3-star. You can however live off the gold & elixir loot bonus', you don't really need to chase that.
I found you had to "next" 10's or even 100's of times to get a base that you can earn a star from. This changes the dynamic of the game completely and for me at least, not in a good way. My DE research and BK are a long way ahead of most at a similar level so it certainly wasn't a mistake
