Wall breakers

I have so far managed pretty well without using wall breakers. I find them over priced and all too often don't get the job done, either running to a pointless wall or being destroyed before blowing up. I admit I may just be useless at deploying them, but I didn't really give myself much time to perfect using them, Stopping at around TH5. I know they can be useful to get to storages, but I'm happy enough barching collector raids and those bases with storages on the edges.

Nearly every army I see people recommend includes a splattering of wall breakers. so, with a move to TH9 coming in the next month or so (once walls complete), is it going to be worth learning how to use wall breakers effectively, or can I get by without them? I read a lot about players at 9 & 10 using air units so maybe I can leave them out altogether. Advice much appreciated.

Wallbreakers are pretty important in war raids especially the golem based raids. At th7/8 you have been able to war using basically all dragons and maybe a few loons so you've never needed them. Obviously at th9 you could simply wait until you get level 2 lava hounds and stick with air attacks but if you ever plan on using the gowi___ attacks you will need to get a little better grip on wallbreakers.

However I'm with you that when farming I very rarely take any with me. When I do its typically ~4. Other people will come and tell you that you should use more and use giants to help hit storages and they're probably correct but I've had luck barching storages without needing many of the little bombers.

You can't learn to use them.

You drop them and pray they go to the logical place

If you are only planning to raid using air troops, you should be okay. That being said, I will suggest you to learn to use WBs effectively. If you don't know how to, you will never be able to use Gowiwi/Gowipe/Gowiwipe etc effectively, specially against level 9+ walls.

Wall breakers are almost as important in a raid as the golem. Learn to use them, and your gowiwi raids will murder bases.

I use wall breakers all the time! Honestly, I couldn't get far without them. If deployed correctly, they go right where I want them to. I VERY rarely have any troubles with them going to an incorrect wall. I deploy distractions before deploying wall breakers. Otherwise, yes they will get murdered! Watch out for mortars. If you time it correctly in between mortar balls dropping you can do some great damage and open up a great whole in their walls. You just gotta try different methods to find your happy place.

As a th9 ahi uses GoWiPe, gowiwi, and barching, I've never needed wall breakers. The jump spell does much better in almost every circumstance.

"Specially" isn't a word, I think you meant especially...

On Topic: WB's can be just as important to a raid as golems are to a GoWiWi or GoWiPe raid, if you can't break open walls with some effectiveness then you probably aren't going to do so well in a raid. "Specially" against bases with higher level walls.

Yes, you do need wallbreakers. You shouldn't carry 2+ jump spells when you could have more valuable spells such as a rage or lightning. Why not just replace that jump with a rage and carry 4 WB's instead of 2 Wizards.

This is one of the worst things I've read on the forum.

Wallbreakers are going to become much more important for you in townhall 9!

Of course there are the power attacks involving golems that depend on wallbreakers, but they should also be part of your regular raids for loot. Big nasty level 6 giants with wallbreakers should be incorporated in your regular raiding army, which will make it easy to smash TH8s and get to the deep storages. Using an army like that you will be able to get gold, elixir and also plenty of dark elixir that you won't be able to get to using Barch. DE is going to be more important at TH9 with so many levels to upgrade your heros.

The fun of the game is on trying and learning new things. One could theoretically just 100% barch all the way up to TH10, but what's the fun in that?

I found wallbreakers a bit infuriating and unpredictable at the begining, but as I used them more and more while farming I became used to them and could get them to where I wanted more easily.

On the flipside, learning how wallbreakers work will help you in designing good bases, since you can then purposely make wallbreakers harder to use on your base. ;)

This is how *I* use WB's:

As you may have noticed, dribbling out WB's a little at a time seems to have little to no effect. The first one will head for a wall and, if he makes it, maybe blow a hole, but the rest of them run all over the base like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off.

The three best ways that I have found to deploy them are:

1) Double tap. Send a pair, wait about half a second, send another pair. Rinse and repeat. What usually happens is, by the time the second (third, fourth etc) pair arrives, the first is just about to blow the hole. The second pair will pause for a second and as soon as the hole blows they will go through and head for the next compartment.

2) Release them in a cloud. Just spam the whole bunch of them. Similar to the scenario above. The group pauses at the wall while the first one to arrive blows a hole. They usually all then go in the hole and head for the next compartment.

3) Line formation. Similar to deploying barbs/archers for a barch attack. Lay down a string of WB's parallel to the wall you want a hole in. This attack seems to be best for cores that are only behind two walls. They all select their own section of the outer wall and blow a hole in it, opening up that section of the base for follow on attackers.

All of these methods assume you are waiting for splash damage to pass and you have point defenses occupied by other troops.

WB AI is tricky at best good luck with it.

Breaking two compartments at the same time (ie. target a T wall section) also helps, since WBs will afterwards ignore those two open compartments, hopefully going further in. Combine with the above advice ("Double tap. Send a pair, wait about half a second, send another pair.") for greater effect.

Note that some bases will avoid exposing a T section to the outside for this very reason (they have a corner pointing out instead).
