Meta Suggestion: P.A.R.T. Campaign (People Against Rule-Out Threads)

I say this is a meta-suggestion, since this is a suggestion for how ideas are suggested are handled in this forum, and not about the game itself.

If you have been here for a moderate amount of time, you will know that threads here are constantly made, with many of them being ruled-out ideas, or just bad threads that people want to keep putting thier 2¢ into for whatever reason.

That needs to stop. The Ruled-out thread problem is so big, there is a policy of deleting them on sight by mods. It is a shame really, since that's why most new people come here for, posting an idea they independently came up with and the desire to help, but unfortunately for them it has likely already been talked about to death before they even started playing CoC.

So, I have some suggestions to help combat this.

1. Make a ruled-out forum section with a short thread life on it, instead of outright deleting.
2. Encourage people to report any and all ruled-out threads using the black ⚠ sign (! inside triangle) on the first post
3. Boycott replying to any 'bad thread' that is posted.
4. Use strategies to keep good posts from sinking too far down the page count.

The first and second suggestion go together. For one, having the Ruled-out thread pulled and put into the trash heap called "Ruled-Out Ideas (and bad threads?)" people can still get their 'fix' of explaining whatfor to the thread creator, and not make the new person feel miffed from thier thread being deleted 'without warning'. There of course is a warning, but they rarely understand the meaning of it until it is too late. Having the prospect of the thread being moved, rather than deleted, will make people feel less guilty about reporting such threads, and people having thier thread reported on will feel less resentful if thier thread is only moved, instead of deleted. They will get the idea that they made a mistake, while other forum-goers that are compelled to keep posting and explaining things will have a chance to do so. People still can keep posting in those threads once they are moved to the Ruled-out sub forum, and leave this one free for original ideas once again.

Suggestions three and four go hand in hand as well. The third one helps push bad posts further down the page count, while the forth suggestion helps keep the good ones near the top. Some strategies for keeping good threads near the top is to save small, mostly unimportant, comments for later. That way when you need to bump a thread back up, you can legitimately do so with a comment, than with a more blatant bumping post.

Please vote, and post here if you have any comments or support this idea. Take part in P.A.R.T. now! Voting would be akin to signing up, more or less, and would be an easier list for people to see who supports this idea.

Other than not replying Im game, normally if its a fresh spawn I ask that they read the stickies , post the link to the ruled out sticky and show them the section that ruled their idea out so they know where to look and what to look for next time.

No, not a sensible approach, to alienate the customers.

Instead, BETTER DEFINE what things are "ruled out", as in ruled out absolutely. Explain why they are ruled out, once, clearly and simply, citing the source of the decision.

Create a a class of perennial requests that are not absolutely ruled out. Customers want to talk about these, and these ideas may benefit from fleshing out. Put these in a separate forum, and direct newcomers making perennial requests to these more informative threads.

Abandon the term "sticky". Newcomers don't know what it means.

If you read the 'sticky' (pinned rules, top post from moderators?), you would know that 'ruled-out' means an idea that Supercell doesn't want to hear about anymore. As for the reasons, you would need to do the research for each and every listed ruled-out idea. Either ask staff or mods directly, or search the forum for the few threads with a Supercell staffer posting the reason why. Both I believe have a questionable rate of success. If you think the thread listing the ruled out, or yet to be considered ideas was long, putting reasons behind each one could easily double the length, or even explode it to 100 times it's size if you put in details.

If you want to talk about the common ideas that still need to be 'voted on' and hashed out, the list is right there, in that same thread with the ruled-out idea list; neatly organized by category. If you want to make weekly talks about such ideas, no one here can say they are 'ruled-out', nor deleted on sight by a mod.

As for your badly worded first line, what do you mean 'alienate customers'? The idea is to 'attack' and solve the problem of the plaque of ruled out threads, not attack the people making them. The fact new people even show up to post an idea, is great! Shows they have the drive and will to try to help. The only issue is that the idea they first post is bad, only for the fact it is an old and long dismissed idea. I want to preserve the will to post ideas, but fix the common mistake of posting what has been posted too many times before.

Ah I see. Never mind about summarization!

But as I've mentioned in other posts, I don't believe that we should be mean to people posting ruled out ideas. (it's there in your original post, but...)

I reply to ruled out people to tell them that it's ruled out, somewhat nicely, explain stuff and help them get along on the forums in the hopes that if they become active forumers they don't repeat this mistake. I'm going to continue doing that, although it doesn't seem to make too much an impact on them. Other than that, I agree with everything else you proposed, so I'll take part in PART, but only partly. (so I will reply to bad threads if I think it hasn't been properly taken care of)
