If you mean "compete" as in keep progressing and maxing out your TH10, then no. Couple hours a day barching should be fine for that.

Periods of time, sure, have to buy gems, no. It's obviously a bit tougher to push without buying gems, but it's quite possible, and if you're just maintaining cups, there's really no need to spend any money unless you're well over 4k.Quote:

The two greatest assets in this game are time & gems. If you have no cash to buy gems, then you will need a lot of time.
It's basically impossible to maintain a top 200 ranking without gemming, you can still sit in champions league without gems but it would take alot of playtime to maintain anything near 4k cups.
