The higher up you go, the more DE you can find. The stronger your troops, the deeper you can penetrate, to get the DE. The higher level your town hall, the higher level your troops can be. At this point, you're almost always raiding TH10s, and there is no loot penalty to factor in.
Not to mention, all the points upon which the others have mentioned--bigger camps, infernos to protect your own loot, and freeze spells to combat the infernos of those you are raiding.
I dunno about anyone else. But I'm at th 9 and easily get 35 to 45k de in 3 hours or so. Plus all the elixir and gold I can handle

As a th 9 mostly attacked th 8s, some had de but most didn't have that much.
As a th 10 got to attack th 9s, they always have de.
700de per raid? that's the same amount of de you get from m3 bonus.
Why don't you upgrade your TH, army camps, and BArch and see for yourself?

@dpino I have much more to do at th9 n have one if not both my heros down constantly. I'm newer player (end of July last year but I play as much as possible for working full time 42 miles away. Current 14bk/18AQ with plenty de for next, My Elixor upgrades all done and lab got hogs minions n flying pig, I will stay at th9 till the queen hits 30, as the show must go on but once u go th10 u can't go back lol n I would like to finish some more walls, few defences exc and take a week off work when I advance (I wish) I seen new th10 in my clan n it's a lot of !&$@ Elixor in beginning for upgrades. I rushed th9 and like it here was just curious n Mabey kinda debating upgrade sooner if it means easier DE as I don't care about defences so much n have never had a problem farming always have extra for walls.

Also the loot penalty doesnt effect much because generally th8 do not have much DE anyway
I think it is because th10s stop barching inactives and start attacking th9 Storages with lvl7 giants + barch. It may be hard to get all 4 Storages of a th9 but getting to the middle for the dark should not be so hard especially if you have the queen alive and even the bad th9s you see while nexting all have dark elixir. Gold/elixir may be dry in higher leagues, but it is really hard to have no Gold, elixir and dark elixir.

That's how TH10s attacked me for 2000 DE offer. TH10's life is hard as hell if these are their farming attacks. Why don't just use 5 zap?
