Best troops for war base donations: wizards or dragons?

This has been discussed before but I need a quick opinion.

Which is a better troop in war base castles: wizards or dragons?

I have level 4 wizards and level 2 dragons. I usually donate dragons to those who have the capacity for it.

I used to think that dragons are the best troops on war bases but I just realised something.

Dragons are slow, they are expensive and they get killed easily by archers even though their hit points are high.

Wizards are faster and do more damage in the small time before being killed.

In 20 capacity we can fit 1 dragon or 5 wizards.

1 dragon has damage per second of 160 while 5 wizards have a combined damage per second of 625.

So, wizards do almost 4 times more damage per second and they are cheaper.

These clan castle troops get killed within a few seconds anyway. So, we need maximum damage in that small time.

So, I have concluded that wizards are our best bet for war base donation.

Our clan puts around 2-3 wizards per CC with the rest archers and a few barbs. Wizards come out last, so if the cc isn't pulled well enough they will pop out in mid-raid and surprise them.

Throw a witch in that normally messes people up.

Yeah, wiz for defense. Save my drags for offense requests.

Wiz by a longshot if it's just between those 2. It's not even close. Witch/wiz is all my clan defends with (with barb top-off of course).

they could be trouble
but they are so easy to lure out because of their troop space

Wizards + a bunch of archers take a while to lure

also, dragons are a single unit, they can't abuse the target change mechanics like wizarch


advantage of dragons over wizarchs is that they are flying, and lightning spell can't destroy them

I've heard people say that several times now. Is it because lightning literally can't damage dragons because its an air troop, or because they survive the lightning spell due to high HP pool?

I think I remember reading lightning does damage air troops but now I can't find it. So I'm not sure anymore.

My clan likes dragons, but I'm starting to see that a large number or wizards with some archers works better. A few of my less experienced clanmates have had their raids really messed up because they thought they lured the whole clan castle, only to have two level 5 wizards pop out in the middle of their raid and ruin everything.

Anyways, I think wiz/archer is the best combo. Valks are good too, but risky because if they go all air they are worthless. If you have any TH6s or lower in your wars witches are great for them because they can destroy a giant based attack.

Assuming you have a very hard CC to lure, Dragon every time. Gives good support for both air and ground raids.

Wizards don't help a whole lot against air with massive balloon collateral damage.
