Are troops upgraded when research is complete?

I'm upgrading to level 2 dragons at the moment, If I have 10 dragons in my army camp will they automatically become level 2 when the research is complete?

Yes, and if you have your barracks filled with dragons they will be lvl2 also. Then you can get rid of them, and get the elixir for lvl2 dragons back.

Good trick to get a bit of extra elixir. Have a full camp and train the unit that is upgrading. Then remove them when the upgrade is done.

Yup. It has never failed either.
