In my opinion, Heroes, especially the Barbarian King, should be placed outside of the walls. While the Archer Queen can be fairly useful defensively, both Heroes are often either asleep or lured out, making their "Place Holders" a waste of wall coverage.

your exposed defenses for your new base most probably lost quite alot of marks, such that its not in the top 10.

Edit: My apology if you were offended. I was merely passing a remark based on what ping said regarding the ranking, as its all based on his point system which he created, with his tesla theme park as template. Hence just trying to give a possible reason why moe's base wasnt included.

Thanks, Moe! As mentioned in the OP, the list wasn't extensive, and was concluded from a small sample of designs that stood out while I was skimming through the Base Design threads, Clan DTP discussion board, & YouTube subscriber submissions. Thus, I might have missed a few note-worthy designs in the process. Will do a better job at sampling next time!
