Isn't it weird that Archer Towers NEVER miss?
Okay, I get that this is in a magical realm full of goblins and wizards and dragons, and weird things happen all the time like how we have mortars and cannons, which means we obviously have gunpowder technology, but we don't have any guns... Anywho, despite all this, I think it's a little extra weird that archer towers and air defenses NEVER miss. I'm pretty sure most of us have been looking through a replay and seen a troop or two get fired on by an archer tower or air def, run or fly a few feet out of the spot where the projectile should land, only to then see the arrow or firework impossibly change its course and follow the troop. Now, I always loved magic, but this is just a tad bit silly.
I understand that this is a minor thing, but I mean, mortars and Xbows miss all the time. I wasn't sure if this classified as a bug, since it's always existed in the game. I'm no computer genius, but I've created some games of my own in my life and I think that if all games can be broken down to the same basic code functions, then I might've isolated the problem.
I think arrows and fireworks are set to find the X and Y position of the troop they have targeted and then continue to track the X and Y until it hits, causing a seeking effect. With a few clicks of the mouse, (I don't imagine this will take much time), the projectiles could be set to find the XY of the troop and then follow the set course with the coordinates they already have, not to follow the troop. This would not mean that defenses fire into empty space and don't follow the troop at all, it simply means that if an arrow or rocket is fired and the troop moves out of the way, the already fired projectile will not follow the troop. In addition, I'm not sure how this would be done, but perhaps if a projectile misses, if there is now a different troop in the position of the last troop, the new troop could be hit by the stray arrow or missile.
I am not a developer, so I can only guess as to the effect this would have on the game, but I think the following things will occur:
•Goblins will get hit less while they are running
•Healers that are following their troops will occasionally dodge a missile
•Dragons that have just destroyed a target will occasionally dodge some stuff too
•Running archers will take less fire from archer towers
•Running or flying hordes of any kind will have defenses fire randomly into the crowd, weakening some troops until it kills the target troop
•Rage spells will double as potential dodge spells. (Only from archer towers and air defenses. I have never seen a cannonball follow a troop, but at the same time, I have never seen a cannon miss.)
This is just a theory. This might even have a huge catastrophic effect on the game, but all I know for sure is that it would be pretty cool, more heroic attacks would happen, and epic moments where a troop makes a narrow last second victory would thrive. Also, remember that archer towers WOULDNT MISS ALL THE TIME, only once in a while.
Thank you for reading, don't mind my stretched out signature, happy clashing!--Thrystan
