I think more people would use the healer if it worked on air troops as well... How can she not heal laterally? She can only heal in a downward direction? Let's make this troop make sense!!

ruled out. means never going to happen. no matter how logical it sounds. read ruled out thread
Yup ruled out, ppl just really hate the healer, a way it could actually be used is if instead of op inferno negating 100% of healing effects only 50%, also a level 5 healer here are the stats:
Heals per second: (71) +19 (90 heals)
Hitpoints: (1176) + 336 hitpoints (1512 hitpoints)
Training cost: (10,000 elixir) + 2000 elixir (12,000 elixir)
Research cost: 4,500,000 elixir
Laboratory required: level 8
Research time: 10 days
there is a reason. healer is air unit. it take hits from same defences as dragon and other units. and it stay behind. so it will become invincible and keep healing dragons. so they will become so much powerful that u cannot kill them all (high hitpoints) . and healer will remain untouched
a lot of people are saying that this would be overpowered, but I'm seeing it as kind of Impractical. Healers are slow and their area of effect is limited, whereas Air raids are predominately based on rapid dominance, making speed more important than longevity. Yes, balloons are very fragile and it's common to see a lot of them go down, but if you're taking long enough to to get any use out of a Healer, you're going to fail either way.
As for ground and air attacks.ground forces are stronger and more useful than air forces, although the diversity has its uses, I for one would never want my healer to abandon my Giants for a dragon.
this would be very over powering imagine healers healing Dragons.
