Is the DE drill the most useless item in the game?

My experimental "ghost" village relies only on the gold, elixir and DE from mines, collectors and drill. No raids. It's a TH7 currently in upgrading to a TH8. It has a BK level 1. Where did the BK come from? From the production of the DE drill .

Here's a simple way of thinking about it: drills give you passive income I.e. income you don't have to do anything to get.

in real life, what you can make at work is much, much more than what you can make off interest on your savings. But interest on savings is still important - it's free money. if the bank decided not to pay you interest you wouldn't be happy. same with the de drill.

No matter if you decide to upgrade it, or not... build it anyway, it gives the attackers on your base more percentage of your buildings to be destroyed, in normal raids, and in CW.

As a th8 having been in gold before the extra drills were added and again now I can say there is much more de easily available this time. Most of the raiding is against th8s with some th7s/9s thrown in. Production from th7/8 has gone up 3 fold (3 drills combined vs 1 combined before) meaning there is much more in the game. So if you raid a lot of de thank all those people with the de drill for bringing it into the game.

7.4k DE a day out of these babies (or 15k boosted!!)

Maxed out DE drill makes 2400 DE a day on top of your normal farming. Now imagine being a TH10 and having that x3. 7200 DE per day is nothing to cry about.

Can you keep your heroes upgrading constantly till they are each at level 40, while also having enough DE to max your DE troops? If the answer is no, build the drill and upgrade it.

Hint - the answer is no.

at TH9 I have 2 level 6 drills which gives me 5,000 dark elixir per day. Useless? It's my most valuable building. I try to keep them boosted, which gives me 10,000 dark elixir per day. Useless? Wth are you talking about?

Not true, you get DE bonus at higher levels for winning raids. Also, get DE from war wins.

Fun fact: I never raid for dark elixir and my trophy range is silver 1-2 where there is no dark elixir at all, but my barb king is going to level 6 and my minions are level 2, all thanks to my 2 drills.
