Is the DE drill the most useless item in the game?

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now. When I got to TH 7 I was so excited that I got a DE storage and would get to use DE troops. The question I found myself asking is that what good is a storage without a drill. At the time I was at silver 2 and there was not much DE to be found raiding. So once I got to TH 8 and got the DE drill I was extra excited to be able to get more of the much needed DE needed for my troops.

Now comes the sad part. After upgrading my troops and moving up to gold I found that I could get more DE farming in one raid than I could get from my DE drill in an entire week. By using BAWG I am able to get to the center of most bases quite easily which makes me wonder what do I need the drill for? After the recent update in which now I can get another DE drill at TH 8 should I really get it? Why waste 1 mil. in elixir for something that is almost useless. So the question is at 1 mil. to purchase and 1.5 mil. to upgrade is there a need for the drill. Thanks for your answers. Check us out at http://drivingforcesclan.blogspot.com/

You can't farm like that if there aren't DE Drills in game :D. They are not useless. You can buy them when you don't know where to spend your Elixir :D.

This logic can easily be applied to the Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors. The Mines, Collectors, and Drills only make it easier for you to get, it doesn't accumulate enough every time. However, that's a different story once it hits level 5 and 6. When you log on, you get x amount depending on how upgraded it is. It's not something that you go, "*click* Oh sweet, I have enough for my King now!"

There are NO useless structures in the game. Everything is there for a reason. If you say DE drills are the most useless things in the game, aren't you indirectly insinuating that Gold mines and Elixir collectors are useless as well, since you can get way more gold and elixir from raiding?

You can definitely get more resources from raiding, because CoC is a game that encourages people to go on the offensive to raid other players to steal their resources. But that's not the point. The point here is that a lvl 3 DE drill gives you 45 DE per hour, 2 lvl 3 DE drills at TH8 gives you 90. In 24 hrs, that's 24 x 90 = 2160 DE Per day. 2160 x 7 days = 15120 DE per WEEK. 15120 x 4 = 60480 DE per MONTH.

Yes, that's 60k FREE DARK ELIXIR per month that you are giving up every second you're hesitating to build those drills. It's fine if you want to purely raid to fund your DE usage, but just bear in mind that here are some FREE DE which you choose to give up.

De drills are one of the best things that SC added imo. I can get a free 160 DE every few hours!!!:o

Imagine those people you raided from. Their de comes from somewhere. You can trace every single drop of de Bak to a de drill. The only other source of de is known as league bonus, which you shouldn't have. Without de drills, no de comes Into circulation. Is de drill useless?

Yeah, the DE drill is so useless, I mean all the DE that goes around comes from the single player maps.

That, and the point someone made here earlier about an 60k DE from a th8 drill is very true. Might look small but it all adds up rather nicely. Well worth spending the elixir I'd say, and given that we can no longer upgrade walls (again) till th9, might as well put that Elix to whatever use you can get! :p

1 lvl 1 drill is useless, 3 lvl 6 drills are awesome XD

Coc is a offence-based game so all resources raided are always better than resources gained by mines. Mines help us with a constant and free intro in a day.
