I'm in th7 for about a week now and making decent progress with my walls. I'll probably finish my walls long before I finish the rest. When should I move to th8? once the walls are done or defenses or everything?? Also, any tips on the layout?

In my opinion i think that is a good base. I also think you should upgrade everything before going to th lvl 8, thats what im doing now
The consensus on the forums is to wait until your defenses are eiher maxed out or practically maxed out. At a minimum, max out your Mortars and Wizard towers and upgrade your farming troops. I just started my th8 upgrade and i've had level 7 walls for maybe a month now.
Wow. A month with maxed out gold storages is really long. Seems like lots of wasted gold that you couldve invested in th8 walls.
I was a level 35ish premature th7 and had started my th8 upgrade once all my walls were level 7. Luckily I found the forums and cancelled my upgrade before it had finished and have been catching up on maxing my base since. I probably would be in a worse position if I had completed the th8 upgrade due to level 3 tier one troops combined with the loot penalty.
Once you get maxed walls just upgrade to TH8. I had full purple walls while my cannons and archer towers were all 2+ levels below TH7 max, and going to TH8 was easily the right decision. If you're a very active farmer (as your walls indicate you are) there is no point staying at TH7 to max all your buildings, you'll just end up capping gold storages and twiddling your thumbs between free builders. Max your storage capacity, and go TH8 and get started on skull walls.
