Building Higher Levels Walls For Free, But Requires Building Time.

I am sure a lot of players have idle builders or think walls are too expensive especially at higher levels. i also know that some players might not like this idea, but iam going to post it anyway as i think it would be better this way.

so my suggestion is an option to build walls with builders that costs absolutely nothing, however it will require time.

• Level 9 walls = 10 days building time per wall (2,500 days worth of building time for all walls to 9)
• Level 10 walls = 12 days building time per wall (3,000 days worth of building time for all walls to 10)
• Level 11 walls = 14 days building time per wall (3,500 days worth of building time for all walls to 10)

with the above suggestion in place, i also believe we would be seeing more gold at higher levels which would also help with loot issues. to me the game as become more boring as i progress and if there's always something for me to build i believe it would be more fun/motivating to play. also this update would greatly benefit players with more builders which could mean more gem purchases to unlock builders.

the building time can be changed for balancing purposes or to make it not op/up. if for some reason you think the game would be too easy, then SC can just simply add new walls :p

Good idea, I'll definitly give you points for originality. That's a relief too since most new threads are the same old thread...over..and over...and over. I don't think that's going to work though. High level walls are really expensive. It takes a lot of time and work to get enough gold to upgrade a wall. To me, that's a good thing. Some things should be really hard. You need to work your butt off sometimes for things. That's why seeing a base with really high level walls is kind of a big deal. You know they either worked their butt off or they bought it....the latter deserving no respect. To make this trade you would have to increase the build time so much you would never have builders again. They'd be working too long. But maybe something like the full cost for instant build like normal, but 1/2 or 2/3 the cost coupled with a long build time. Totally your choice. That might be a more reasonable compromise while still maintaining the sense of earning it. Doubt SC will ever do it though.

nice idea..but I think I'll stick to the loot for walls since I can get about 16 legos a day..but don't get me wrong its a nice idea just would have to wait literally years to get lvl 9 walls

Could still be sped up with gems so SC wouldn't loose any $$. Easy to implement. Good original thinking. I'm not sure if I like it or not but I don't see a problem with it at first glance.

i love this idea. builders become 100% useless when you finish building everything except walls. this could also encourage players to fully max out including walls before they upgrade to next town hall which is extremely rare at higher levels.

I think some of you are confused. this suggestion is an additional option and not replacing the current method, so you can efficiently use both builders and instant buy wars with resources/gems at the same time.

Wow, so many people not seeing these two parts.

I understand the idea of what you're talking about, I personally try to leave one builder idle Most of the time for walls and small projects. I don't see myself using this much at all, but I don't see an inherent reason to leave it out. I just don't see a reason to put it in either.

don't forget players that have finished upgrading everything except walls will have 5/5 or so idle builders.

At first glance I thought your idea would be unfair to players who grinded out those walls already. But when i saw the upgrading times you posted that feeling was gone. I feel like the times should be more leveled to the cost of the walls. Lv9 walls cost 1m, lv10 walls cost 3m and lv11 walls cost 4m each. Therefor I would suggest an upgrading time of 3 days, 9 days and 12 days respectively.

After having said that, I'm still not sure if it should be implemented. This would take away some of the incentive to stay active to gather enough resources for the wall grind. Higher leveled people could stop playing entirely to just upgrade walls with time. This could be countered by limiting the amount of builders used for walls. Say half of the builders you have, rounded up. That means 1 builder if 2 are available, 2 if 3 are available, 2 if 4 are available and 3 if 5 are available.

Kudos to you for having one of the more creative ideas on the forums lately.

Wall level: 9-10

i fully support despite levelling a lot of my walls.

SC can't complain about this idea (I think :p)

dunno how many people will use it (probably only maxed based and/or semi inactive people), but it's interesting

and it's definitely slower than the average farming, so it's okay

Very interesting! However, this would drastically affect the loot availability and make it much easier to max out your base.

town hall 11 could be considered if players can max out 10

It might devalue the progress some players have already made on their walls, but it is an interesting idea. The days required to upgrade would have to be tweaked so that they don't come anywhere close to similar progress casual farmers would make. I guess the idea behind this would be more to help those who want to stay at their TH level and finish walls before heading to the next level, without having 5/5 builders idle the entire time.

It would certainly give the builders on my TH10 account something to do, as farming with him with this current elixir for walls system is just stupid right now.

People should be able to upgrade walls as fast as they can earn the loot for them. As it is most people will not even come close. Your idea would ensure no one does unless they spend a boatload of gems on them.

Using a builder is an option...in addition to using gold/elixir. I like it because in addition to having too much elixir at the end of TH8, you also have idle builders. It's not much but it will save a little gold. If it takes the average person 1 month to max skulls, it might save you $6M gold if you have 5 builders and save one for upgrading the old fashioned way.

there will be 3 choice first and second upgrade using gold/elixir and just done it instant
third not use any resources but need "time"

I like this idea, my builders have stayed 5/5 for a while except for heroes and since I'm getting some lavas before I get to TH 10 this would be helpful when I dont have enough resources, plus it would give XP!!

thank you all for the posts. if you don't agree with this idea please explain why a lot of posts have feedback thats irrelevant or doesn't match up with the idea. this suggestion is OPTIONAL and you can still level the usual way so it DOES NOT take years to fully complete walls or require you to spend mass gems.

I like this original idea. I couldn't find much that SC would object to, but I did think of one thing.

Everything that SC does, they always try to maximize user time spent logged in and actively playing the game.

If this idea were implemented, people with max defenses could simply go into lazy slow mode and upgrade their walls this way. They don't have to play the game anymore essentially, and still upgrade walls (albeit at a snail's pace).

Eventually, they would realize it's getting them almost nowhere and all this time they haven't been playing the game and found more entertaining things like going outside and playing sports, or playing a different game, or binge eating.

A huge part of SC's success is keeping people addicted to this game. That means maximizing online time, keeping players engaged and giving them lots to do and not be bored of. Much like a casino with their bright lights and enticing sounds and no visible clocks and pumping oxygen into the rooms........ they want to keep people distracted and spending.

That was all I could think of. I do like the idea, especially since it's an OPTION to upgrade walls, and the conventional method would still exist.

You could still keep one idle builder to level your walls using gold/elixir from raiding. You could just get up to 4 walls at a time without having to raid continuously for 2-3 months, or longer.

i see your point and i wont deny the time taken to complete would be shorter. however i also believe SC should release higher upgrades when the time is right (Town Hall 11, Level 12 walls etc...). as for addiction i believe making players constantly use all builders would increase the addiction.

I like this idea and would use it, as my 3rd option.

Option 1 - build with gold
Option 2 - build with elixir
Option 3 - build for free but need to wait on time

I think the time is fair, as suggested, or reduced would be fine with me too. I am not sure why a lot of users are complaining that it will take 15 years to do it. Even if you went with ONLY Option 3, had 5 builders and dedicated them all to the walls nonstop, it does not equate to 15 years.

For level 11 walls
250 wall pieces / 5 builders = 50 wall pieces per builder
50 * 14 days (using longest build time) = 700 days
700 / 365 days in a year = 1 year and 335 days

For level 10 walls == 1 year and 235 days
For level 9 walls == 1 year and 135 days

Unless I missed something, please feel free to correct me. Either way, you could always dedicate 4 builders to the walls and leave 1 idle to build with either Gold or Elixir.

I don't know whether I'd be strongly for it or against it, I'm trying to look at it from the approach that SC should have taken when deciding to implement the elixir for walls update: are there any ways that this becomes unfairly exploited or cheapen the value of the game? also is it necessary?

I can only see it devaluing the progress made by players who needed to farm like crazy to get their walls, but with such excessive build times per wall piece I believe that more than balances it out. It definitely benefits players who are struggling to keep all their builders busy, whether due to not farming as aggressively as others, or being "maxed out" at the TH they're at and simply wanting to boost their progress completing their walls w/o feeling like they're missing out on progression they could be making at higher TH levels. It wouldn't be a substantial boost either, again given the time required to build each level of wall.

I would rather see the current situation of elixir for walls fixed before something more unique like this is implemented, but beyond that I would welcome it, so long as it was introduced responsibly. That's the key word here, and Supercell has a history of not doing things in that way.

Yeah this is the main thing I could see as a deterrent to doing it. But from the players' perspective, there really isn't anything wrong with the idea (or at least not glaringly obvious to me currently). However time not spent grinding/farming out those walls is time that can never be spent boosting barracks or purchasing gems in some fashion, which is absolutely what Supercell doesn't want.

If they shut it down for that reason I'd completely understand where they're coming from, and if they pushed it through I would probably take advantage of it on my TH10, who I barely play on anymore due to the bigger problem that is the way the elixir for walls are currently handled.

I like the idea, but there needs to be a limit. You could only do it with one free builder at a time.

I propose a compromise.

People are complaining about the elixir walls. No, I'm not talking about the people that are complaining that Supercell took away the elixir walls for TH7's and TH8's.

I'm referring to the people who think that even L9 walls should cost gold only. Some think that ALL walls should be gold-only.

There are various reasons for not wanting people to upgrade walls with elixir. The main argument I've heard is that it allows players to dump elixir out of the economy.

So, here's the compromise:
All walls can be bought with gold or with elixir, at any level.

But, walls bought with gold are instant. Walls bought with elixir take time. I don't know how much time is fair, but it needs to be long enough to slow the rate at which players can dump elixir out of the economy. My first thought was something like this:

L4 (iron) : 15 minutes
L5 (butter) : 30 minutes
L6 (pinks) : 1 hour
L7 (purples) : 2 hours
L8 (skulls) : 4 hours
L9 (legos) : 8 hours
L10 (lavas) : 16 hours
L11 (zaps) : 1 day

Dumping elixir at L5 and below won't really impact the economy much (imho), because elixir is needed just as much as gold at low TH levels, if not more. The time aspect is mainly a way to deter a player from upgrading 20 walls at once, which they would probably regret later anyway.

Using 8 hours per million as a rough guide, an active player could dump about 2M elixir per day into walls with just one free builder. With 2 free builders, you could dump elixir twice as fast.

Note that L10 walls cost 3x the elixir as L9 walls, but I purposefully made them only 2x the build time. This would incentivize saving up for the L10 wall, which in turn would mean more raidable loot if the player logged off.

It would work for me, I don't have a lot of time to play, and being able to upgrade something would keep me interested in the game. What does the idea have to do with spending money on a game? It would give you another option, it wouldn't take a way any existing ones.

They would still be able to upgrade walls as fast as they want to. Again, this would not take away any options, only add new ones.

I think this is a great idea. I can't see SC losing any money over this. People who gem the gold for their walls usually do it all in one day, they wouldn't gem all of their walls but 5 and then wait two weeks. And it means that people who don't attack much have something for their builders to do.

True, but's how it's been since the game started.

When I first started playing the game, I remember reading "beginner guides" that recommended dumping excess gold into walls, and "banking" elixir by queuing up expensive troops in the barracks. That's just how the game was and always has been. You could basically dump most of your gold, depending on what level walls you had available to upgrade. And you could hide a substantial amount of elixir. For a high level town hall, it's not enough elixir for a major upgrade, but at least enough to fund a minor upgrade or pay for a clan war army. And for a TH4 or TH5, it really could be enough for a major upgrade.

So I'm not looking to change how gold is spent on walls. I'm just looking for a way to make elixir walls available without ruining the whole economy for TH9's and TH10's. My preferred method is to set a reserve (Goobers has a thread on that topic). My next preference is to make elixir walls more expensive than gold (see for example this post). Someone had a suggestion to make level 9 walls available at TH8, and I think that idea has merit as well. I don't know how much that will disrupt the balance between TH7's and TH8's, or the balance between TH8's and TH9's, but I assume the disruption, if any, will be limited in scope, simply because so few players bother to max walls before upgrading.

And in the current thread, I don't think time-only walls are a good idea. But maybe adding a moderate time penalty to elixir walls (a hybrid approach) might be a good idea. It's a great idea but it should star at lvl 6 and be a lot less time than you suggested.

I think this could actually increase gem usage. I am assuming a person that runs out of patience of a section can gem it to finish fast, and that this choice would be made often or at least however many times people decide they cant wait 15 years.

And also If I understand you can still do it instantly for the existing cost. They can price it so that to decide to take the free road then change mind spends a little more than

elixir and gold should be given same treatment so if anyone suggest about caps reserve for elixir then why gold is not capped too dont jugde a thing and b thing with different view look them as equal

Well, except they're not equal. Name one thing you can buy with either gold or elixir, other than walls (L9 and higher currently).

You can only buy troops with elixir (or dark elixr). You can only re-arm traps with gold. You can only upgrade barracks with elixir. You can only upgrade defenses with gold. And so on.

They're not equal. One of the worst things about the elixir walls was that the price was the same for elixir as for gold.

Making walls cost the same elixir as gold, and making the reserve the same for both, will only further justify the calls for people to be able to exchange one resource for the other, since "they're basically equal anyway". No, they're not equal! They are two different resources. If Supercell wanted the economy to be based on one resource, they would have made it with just one resource!

The whole point of having two resources is to force people to learn to manage their resources effectively. If you can just upgrade walls (about 80% of the upgrade costs at TH9 and TH10) with either resource, then why bother managing resources at all???

The more I think about it, the more I am against the unrestricted use of elixir for walls at ANY level.

But to help ease the grind at high levels, I am in favor of allowing it with some sort of restrictions (like Goobers' suggestion of a reserve, or my suggestion of a higher elixir price, or locking up a builder, etc.).

L5 (butter) : 30 minutes
L6 (pinks) : 1 hour
L7 (purples) : 2 hours
L8 (skulls) : 4 hours
L9 (legos) : 8 hours
L10 (lavas) : 16 hours
L11 (zaps) : 1 day

Dumping elixir at L5 and below won't really impact the economy much (imho), because elixir is needed just as much as gold at low TH levels, if not more. The time aspect is mainly a way to deter a player from upgrading 20 walls at once, which they would probably regret later anyway.

Using 8 hours per million as a rough guide, an active player could dump about 2M elixir per day into walls with just one free builder. With 2 free builders, you could dump elixir twice as fast.

Note that L10 walls cost 3x the elixir as L9 walls, but I purposefully made them only 2x the build time. This would incentivize saving up for the L10 wall, which in turn would mean more raidable loot if the player logged off.

Still a better system than what we currently have, I like it.

Might incentivise players to not to raid as often (basically become less active) if they only have walls left to do, but on the other hand they are then missing out on farming gold that they could be dumping into walls as well. Obviously not all bases hold identical levels of gold and elixir, but on a macro scale I would assume that the economy generates equal levels of gold and elixir based on collectors/league bonuses. So if you tried farming only bases with high levels of gold while your elixir wall builders are busy, to keep your elixir low, you could do that--but you are leaving bases that have loads of elixir available for others to hit.

It lessens the overall value of elixir for established bases yet again, but not nearly to the extent that it is essentially useless (what is currently happening at TH7/8). There there is still incentive to farm up enough to keep builders busy, which will allow higher TH levels the chance to hit them for their stores.

Way to think outside the box and use the OP's idea to think of a practical solution for upgrading with elixir. +1

About elixir walls, I think they are fine the way it is.

I think they should add wall achievements
gained x walls at level x and above

Don't like this idea, encourages inactivity to some extent. As you don't need to cough up resources for upgrades.

I think the absolute opposite - walls should cost loot but not require a builder since it's an instant build. I would get a lot more done on my base if I didn't try to manage builders and keep one relatively free to do walls. Nice to see an original post in forums, though :)
