When you become a near maxed Th8 you should start to learn to gowipe in clan wars. The Th8 bases with lvl6 air defenses that give mass dragonners problems can be gowiped for 3 stars even with lvl one golems as long as your wizards and pekkas are 5/3 and your BK is near lvl10.
as TH8, it depends on the base. Gowipe is hard to get 3 stars as TH8. But as you become a higher TH8, it's a good strategy in wars when you're matched vs tougher TH8s or low TH9s to get 2 stars.
Go ahead and give it a try! Upgrade those troops you use most first!
For war after Dragons, I advocate my clanmates to max either Hogs or GoWiPe depending on their preference.

Max one then work on maxing the other. We have some who prefer and kick ♥♥♥♥ with one style but eventually they become adept with both for different style bases. War gets interesting again when you put the dragons away.

Being new to GoWiPe it is a lot more fun than drags. I have been using my Hogs for awhile now in wars with great success, also more fun than drags. Hogs are at lvl 3, Pekkas going to lvl 2 now, Golems at lvl 1, and wizards at lvl 5. I have not used GoWiPe in war yet but I have done a few raids with good results. I will push pekkas to lvl 3 as soon as they are done, then try them on tougher bases.
never use gowipe until th10 or th9. at th8 you can easily 3 star any th8 with either hogs, holo, or dragons
