I'm finding 1 every 50-100 searches. Enough to keep gold afloat if you TH snipe exclusively.
The minor difference is that they are sometimes barely defended - up against a wall that a few defenses would hit. I'll usually drop 2 giants, then heros + abilities to take TH down without having to wait for them to heal.

The higher you go, the harder to find. I'm in C2 with my TH exposed. I rarely see exposed TH in my searches, but I don't need to search for very long and I'm not looking for them either.
By the time I was in M2, I never saw an exposed TH. I'm sure they exist, but difficult to find.
Every 5-15 minutes of nexting until m1, then it can take up to 1 hour and more
Takes me 21 minutes a search.
However 2000-2010
1 in 10, otherwise 21 min a search unless you get lucky.
Got to Masters. Here is my observation:
TH snipes are possible until 2550 cups.
After that I searched for 30 minutes, burned 400k gold (sold my statue of PEKKA and ancient skull as I ran out of gold).
No snipes. Maybe because its the holiday season.
But I got to Masters. Yep.
