The 1 Hour Farming Test (SURPRISING RESULTS)

TH Level 7
Trophy Count started and ended at 47 during test.

Whats better?
Raiding lower resources with minimal troop use
Or all troops to raid a 200k resources opponent

I set out to a 1 hour test to see how the raiding lower resources with minimal troop use method worked (it has been my farming method for a long time, but I had never measured my success).

Here is how it went. I have 3 working barracks (1 is under construction) and 200 troop max. I maxed out my troops and started with 128 Goblins (lvl 4), 12 Giants (lvl 3), and 12 Wall Breakers (lvl 4). My plan was to raid as many times as possible focusing on stealing GOLD. However if I crossed a base with lots of elixir unprotected I would raid it as well. In the hour raiding I only made Goblins in my barracks to replenish what I was using.

In efforts to keep this post short on words I'm going to post my results and field any questions you might have. I'm posting the pictures from my spreadsheet and will also type the final results out (so readers who are not registered can at least see the results). The average/raid and ratios at the bottom are the most important.

The Raid Details will do a good job showing my raiding tactics/opponent selection.

As the data shows, I stole nearly 2 million in gold and almost 1 million in elixir in 1 hour. During this time I never ran out of goblins, giants or wall breakers however I ended with 1 giant and 3 wall breaks at the end of the hour so I was about to need to train those troops. The majority of the places I raded were between 35k and 90k and on average used 13 goblins. This is hands down is more profitable than looking for a HUGE base to raid for 100k+ resources. Here is my logic.

I never had to wait to train troops, I essentially raided 36 bases without stopping for an hour. If you used all of your troops to raid 1 base with 200k resources it would take you about 25 minutes with 4 barracks to build your army again. So within the hour you could raid a max of 400-500k if you found incredibly good bases.

In the end I can definitely say raiding fewer resources that are easy to get with minimal troop use was incredibly effective!

How are these surprising results? Isn't it rather obvious that going for the highest resource to troop ratio will bring the most resources in the least time?

I think what surprised me was how large of a difference it made. I made nearly 3 million in total resources in an hour instead of about 400-500k in total resources with the other method. I guess I wasn't expecting to see that much in resources collected.

You should have. By far the most time consuming part of attacking is building troops.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Did you track the average level (or TH level) of the opponents you raided? (I don't see it here, but was just curious)

No, I was halfway through when I realized it would have been helpful to track what TH lvl I was attacking and the possible elixir/gold. Oh well, next time I run this through I'll let everyone know! If I were to venture a guess I think the majority of places I attacked were TH 6's

Excellent post OP. I wish someone would do this for TH9 though :)

It's not too surprising for a lvl7; make sure you upgrade everything before you hit 8 because you'll find far less at that trophy range. I literally hit "Next" 50-100 times today and only found farmers and heavily defended bases at that range. It took me about 2 hours to get 1 million and I had to completely wipe out 2 farmers to get 1/5th of that.

At some point you'll get bored at 7 and want more walls, towers, etc. Now farming is like the plague and soon they'll be nothing left to get. I don't know about you guys but if I do drop trophies to attempt to find targets, as soon as I log out I'm +300-400. I've tried heading up to the 700+ range and did not have much luck either.

I guess SuperCell wants you to gem gold and upgrade your pumps/mines and/or attack other high level players.

Since the TH9 went live, farming as we know it (fast pace) for those who upgraded to th9 is gone on any ranges. Which is why it's best to tell people to max everything first at TH8 especially PEKKA.

yeah i'm pretty adamant about the evil deeds behind supercells gemming tactics... frankly... its a whole lot of bull as it has taken away the fun out of the game... I was up the 2000+ range on trophies... but i find that ridculously boring now as you have to wait on elixer! tbh... the fun now is at the bottom where there are heaps of resources! just saying

A buddy of mine who is a TH8 (didn't upgrade everything at TH7) is pretty annoyed by how much harder it becomes to farm.

I don't know what it's like at 8 or 9, but with the resources as abundant as they are at 7, I'll spend evey last drop and coin and have all storages topped off before I kick off that upgrade, and have them all topped off before it finishes, too. ;)

Very hard to find any easy players to raid at TH9. I wish u could sell the TH and/or start the game over. Sc makes all these changes after some of us already upgraded our TH. SC should give gems back to us or allow us to sell our TH bc of the new system in place now.
We all have had a plan in place before these changes so its only right for SC to make it right to us.

TH9 did not change at all. It has always been bad for farmers since day 1 of it's release so the "Th9 sucks now" doesn't seem to be an accurate statement.

TH9 is bad at farming but BEST offensive and defensively than any other TH levels.

It was never this bad. You are level 9 like myself so you should know that it is worse now than it was 5 days ago.
All I'm saying is SC should make it right to all players. They dramatically changed the game after we all spent money on a game that was different from the one that is currently being played. I myself would of never upgraded my th if I knew the raid system was gonna change.

I generally looked for the bases that had the gold resource near the outside so that goblins were drawn to it first. Most of the times these bases had low level defenses and 9-13 goblins could take down 2 gold resources before they were killed. If there were multiple defenses around the gold I would send 1 Giant to absorb some damage allowing some time for the goblins to take over.

Wall breakers were only used if the wall was between the drop zone and the resource.

Based from my own experience, I have not felt any change since I gemmed my TH9. It was horrible for farmers since the day it was out and I have been vocal about it to the point of advicing people not to TH9 til everything is maxed at Th8.

At thread starter, I believe the best farming experience is at TH7. TH8 is a little bit harder but with lvl 5 troops, it makes it decent but still not as good as th7.

Funny u say that Pedro, last thing I did right before my TH9 finished was upgrade my PEKKA to level 3 :-D

I dont understand how people farm using so little abouts of goblins, I always end up using 50+

Dear God! What level is your TH and who are you farming? I'm getting similar results to Doggo, especially today, and I'm TH7. Goblins lvl 4, giants lvl 3, wall breakers lvl 3. I almost never use more than 20 goblins per raid. Usually between 10-15.

@subtletea what trophy range are u in?

Yup some players drive for the top tier, others like myself just cruise through , picking up battles here and there , my fun as Im currently clanless is chatting with those in global
It is what you make of it, my best rank was 257 now theres not enough zeros :)

Currently 344 sitting behind a shield and waiting for upgrades to finish. Try farming 300 under; I had luck there today.:)

When I had lvl7 I decided to go for lvl8th and from 100k gold to the required 2 million it took me 2-1/2 hrs running four barracks and nothing but wall busters and goblins... And after I succeeded at upping my th I continued on a cpl more hrs and bout all the flags(another 2 mill) all while at 0-35 trophies and had prolly lvl2 goblins and busters...

I said in the original post.

Goblins lvl 4, giants lvl 3, WB lvl 4. The key is to only attack villages where the gold is immediately accessible by goblins. 2 gold storage a bunched can easily be destroyed by 10-15 goblins. Also release all of your goblins together, if your first wave doesn't get the results you want I generally just surrender and do not waste anymore.

I am TH lvl 8 and I just dropped to under 300 trophies and I'm getting matched up with TH 1-5! Getting really annoyed and can't find a single lvl 30+.
