Champs League/Low Trophy Offerings

I am a longtime farmer (1B+ GG) and clan war enthusiast, but after I maxed all defenses and finished lvl9 walls, I decided to take a shot at Champions League. With one gem hero and spell boost, I figured this was my best shot. I am a decent attacker with GoWiPe and GoWiWi, though certainly no expert, and I surprised myself by making it to 3280 with relatively little resistance, my defense doing the lions' share of the work.

This morning after another defense win overnight (+28), I sat at 3308. I had an army and spells built, and I began searching. In the 30 or so minutes I had to search, I did not see a single Champions League base. Nearly all of what I saw were Masters II and III bases for 1-6 trophies. In the 3200s, I had a been seeing decent offerings from time to time at least, with 10-12 trophies regularly offered and the occasional 20+. Not a single base over 10 trophies now. With a screaming child in the other room and a wife rapidly losing her patience, I found a 9 trophy offering in Masters I that I didn't really like, but I hit it anyway and predictably lost for a -33. I signed off and immediately got one-starred (50% to Barch) for a -12.

I read the forums casually and have seen discussions of the poor trophy offerings in Champs and the need to stay online for hours on end to make any upward progress. I had believed (likely incorrectly) that those issues would start much higher, like near 4000. Have I at 3300 trophies reached the ceiling, i.e. searching at length for bases with very few trophies offered? Or is it unusual at that level to have difficulty finding a Champs League player to hit? Perhaps the one gem boost has caused some shift in where that line is? My fundamental question is this: Can a casual player (doing an attack, then waiting three hours to rebuild army/spells) realistically expect to go any higher than this?

This is not a complaint post, I really don't care what the answer is. I exceeded my own expectations by even getting to Champs, and I will happily crawl back under the rock I came from. I just want to make sure that I have reached approximately the upper limit of where a casual player can advance without gemming and/or playing more than an hour or so each day (neither of which I can/will do).

Anyway, thanks for any knowledge or advice you can share. And if you want to join me in trophy retirement, my clan "The SPC" is constantly warring and always looking for good attackers.

The short answer is yes, it's unusual. I'm slightly higher than you and, even though I'm farming, I notice that I usually find at least a couple decent cup offers in the few minutes I search for. Basically, it was bad luck, and you might want to consider hitting "end battle" and starting your search again if this happens in the future.

The larger picture, however, is not so bright. Good trophy offers become few and far between well before 4000 (I really started to notice it at around 3600), and at 3800, you start having the problem that you can't find any bases whatsoever, even for one trophy. That said, you can definitely advance higher with your one attack and log off strategy, but it will be slow going and don't expect to get too close to 4k. As a final note, if you continue to lose defenses, consider putting your th outside, the vast majority of my defenses were -1 snipes from 3400 to 3800.

There are many, many other players who had the same idea as you and started earlier than you: using the 1 gem boost to reach Champions. You're experiencing the results of that traffic jam into Champions. It's a bit tougher than normal, but it's never exactly paradise.

Was this in the past week? I just pushed to champs too and I'm only sitting about 3220.

The 1 gem boost has messed up everything I was in crystal 2 and consistently finding gold 3 and even found a gold 2.

I'm on the fence whether or not to stay up here, but I'm waiting until the 1 gem boost ends so I can get a more realistic idea of what the scene is like.

Sadly the opposite is also true.

I was at 3430 cups. I always leave my TH outside. Normally, I'll get sniped for -1 up to -9.

When I logged back in, I saw -19?! I thought, "bummer, someone decided to 2 star me".
Nope, it was a snipe!!!! By someone with 2697 cups!!!

Umm... someone in normal matchmaking found a base that's over 700 cups above them?!?! :confused:

I think that's part of the bug introduced in the most recent update/gem boosts, but I did find an offer for +56 a month or so ago while pushing in mid-Champ (I lost).

All of the above true, theres crazy matchmaking going on in lower leagues, either due to bug or just plain heavy traffic because of the boosts.
I'm occasionally catching up to a minute of clouds in M1, something ive never seen before.

Two other things though. In my champ forays, ive found offers are at their absolute WORST in low champ, 3200-3400. Remember, theres a lot farming there now, so raid a lot faster than heavy armies. Even worse because of boost.

Lastly, its that time of the fortnight, league reset time. All the big boys tend to push like crazy (as in more than normal) over the season reset weekend. This will also be a little worse because of boosting. If you were higher, the: 'can't find villages to attack' would start appearing.

Right, what you can do about it.
Keep reloading game when offers are poo. Switching languages is quickest way, but the languages themselves are irrelevant. Youre most likely of finding an average to good offer within first few nexts.

Or, wait until season and cheap boost end. Will be more expensive, but traffic should be significantly lower.

TH out for snipes. Sometimes youll get stung for huge 1* or someone after you for big 🏆 2*, but the majority will honestly be 1-4 from 3800+.

Gl. Its hard work, can be very frustrating, but rather rewarding.

Yes, I did the entire climb from mid-Masters in the past 7 days. The searching was this morning.

Made it to champs from masters (III) in like a day and a half (thnx to 1-gem boost). Took 2 more days to make it to 3500. One must be Online at least for 6 hours per day to achieve some results.

Just wait whilst searching and you'll find those 20+ cups (actually boring, but who cares).

A lot of "1-2" cups there, but still. Be patient.

I think you have done very well to reach the champs the way you have BigBatur congratulations. Unfortunately as stated above I think you have reached you limit as a casual player. The searches just get longer and the cups get less the higher you go. I have been above 4000 cups a few times but end up dropping back down because the searches are so long and the cup offerings are so bad. Also I just get bored looking at clouds. Sometimes you are lucky to find one good base in a 6 hour session. Other days it can be better but not much.

Enjoy your achievement and just have fun with your clan mates and clan wars. It surly is a lot more fun. Unless you are willing to put in long hours and use gems it's really not worth it to go above 4000 cups IMO. This said everyone plays for there own reasons so as long as you are enjoying yourself that is the most important thing. Life is short.
