TH8 War Base Design

Hi guys.

I've seen some similar bases, but I've not come across one identical to mine. I seem to have a good defence against MassDrag attacks, or I've only been attacked by people that cannot attack with dragons — so far I've not had anyone 3 star me with dragons.

However, I am a little weak on ground attacks from TH9s which I get often in wars as I'm quite high up on my clan. I wondered if I could have some critique on my base and suggestions for ground attacks. I know my walls are weak, and I'm working on these now. I'll be farming over the next couple of weeks to get al level 8 walls, but in terms of defensive buildings, are there any suggestions?

Thats really good! Can't think of any improvements really just possibly focus on upgrading all your walls for a bit.

Cool thanks guys. I guess with the stronger walls this'll make it harder for the ground troops to break through. Dragons seem to struggle with this. I was MassDrag attacked 3 times in the last war any they only took 1 star from me. Seems to be very hard for dragons to beat this base, but ground troops can at least 2 star me.

I'll work on the walls, but it's such a pain...

Your base has a very lurable cc, which is a very big flaw for th8s

You might try looking at a funneling guide. It could really improve your ground defense.

You're always going to get wiped by th9 troops; just keep upgrading to prevent this from happening;)

Yeah the lureable CC isn't great but the real draw back is lack of DGBs

Interesting style though I've seen this (or close to it) with th9 and 10 but never 8

Yeah I know — I've tried so many variations of bases, but without exposing my TH I couldn't figure out a way without having gaps in my walls or less than three walls to my TH, which is what the aim was with this — to always have three walls to get to my TH.

I looked at these, and have also tried it but it's always too obvious — people just send a couple of barbs down them to set the traps and then they've penetrated the outer layer. I've not had much success with them when I've tried.

Do you think a better design would be to have two DGBs and two double Tesla's?

That base is solid! Though if it were me I would try to incorporate some funnelling. :)

Moved to have two double bombs and two Tesla's together. Someone at TH9 with strong troops tried to GoWiPe me and the double Tesla made easy work of the P.E.K.K.A and the double bombs destroyed their wizards.

I'd consider this base, in this version, pretty Dragon and Hogg proof. Thanks for your comments guys. If anyone wants to give this a try, please let me know how you get on.

This is the current version. I've also moved the peripheral buildings out to make them work to get the CC troops out, albeit not that hard.

Since January when I first posted this I have been tweeting and improving my base. I've still not been 2 starred yet on any dragon attack, so I would consider this pretty anti-dragon now.

TH9 with level 5 hogs have managed to 3 star me, but I don't come across those too much in our wars as they concentrate on our top guys. Many attacks on the ground are getting 1 star, a good ground attack might get 2 on occasion, but my walls are improving more and more to that helps.

The final base design is below. Please anyone if you're always being attacked by dragons in war give this base a go as I assure you, if you have high-level air defences, this will keep the attacker at bay. Remember to set your skeletons to 'air' so they delay the dragons when they get close to your air defences. Makes all the difference.

Really good! When upgrading the walls since you already have the ones around the town hall upgraded, upgrade the walls on the outside to make it harder to get in the base in the first place.

Nice base but why 3 storages sitting out side and the collectors are inside?

Because the cannon and two archer towers range can reach troops attacking them. So they're picked off. Although I may try bringing them in the base to see if it makes a difference, thanks.

Use the 3 storages as a shield for the AD's to protect u from mass drags a bit more apart from that ur cc seems lure able but cant really be helped so great job on the base! 9/10

The CC is an issue, but harder to hide it at TH8. However, as I'm usually MassDrag attacked it's not really a problem as most people just drop their dragons anyway rather than luring. But thanks for the reply.

A th9 atker wreck into the base from the north and took 5 of my storages, he was good, spread out 16 lv6 giants, then wb from the top, aq and bunch of archer came in collecting left over lol. I will try again.

Can you post some defense logs for us to see what its good against?

Against a TH9 most TH8 bases will crumble due to the increased level in troops and the extra 20 you can take from your camps.

Hi ChiefNia.

So these are attacks against me from the current war. You can see the troop composition and the percentage complete.

The first attack.
Standard MassDrag attack, except for some reason they went with healing spells — whatever, it didn't work. 63% of base destroyed got them the star.

The second attack.
This person tried to hog attack me to take out the air defences before sending in a couple of dragons. Admittedly they got their healing spells all wrong and the double big bomb took out their hogs down on the left by the elixir collector.

The third attack.
Having watched the other two fail their top guy knew where my traps were which enabled a more calculated attack, however, they ran out of time as the 3 dragons made hard work of the peripheral buildings. I set the skeleton traps to ground troops for this war and they took out the Hogs eventually which slowed them down.

If I'm attacked anymore this war I'll post results but doubt they will go for me now as only have low level attacks left.

Overall, great base in my mind!! I might just try a version of this out!

This was my exact same question. I'd think them inside the base, closer to the ADs, would be a better choice. Further, even if it was a ground attack, I'd think that you'd want them inside such that more defenses could target troops than way on the outside.

Also, I'm in thought about your DBG here. My gut reaction is that you'd want to trip the bombs no matter which way hogs entered the base, but it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that if hogs entered the base directly over said cannon, they'd take it out, then get a glancing blast, as the hogs have no reason to sit on top of the bombs.

Thoughts about that?

Based on feedback I have moved them inside now (see version 3 on the first post on page 1).

When looking at Hog deployment I'm yet to be attacked from that way with Hogs. At the moment they all seem to come form the side where the archer towers are. I guess they feel it's the safer option, so until I get attacked from directly below I cannot see how effective the DGB is.

War starts in 1h40m so I will look to see if any Hog attacks come my way and feedback. But thanks for the reply. Hopefully I'll be hog attacked and work to make the base stronger.

If I were you I would replace all the collectors that are within the walls with the storages that are outside, especially the DE storage. Reasoning behind this is that the storages have a lot more HP than the collectors, therefore the dragons will take a longer time disposing of them, giving your defence more time to deal damage.

would I 3 star you if I lightning bot AD, 10 drag from right, and drop cc loons from top left once that AD locks on to one of the drag?

People have tried and failed with that technique. New war today and their top player failed on my base again.

Another war won, and another couple of attacks on my base. This time just the 1 star from me. One MassDrag attack and one Hog and Wizard mix. Neither went very well, as you can see. GDB took out the hogs for that attack and air defences got the dragons.

Probably could, but even the balloons get distracted by the defences outside of the centre. Also, they've been taken out by the skeletons slowing them down. I wish I'd saved replays of these attacked but when they happen again I will post them.

Just had 2 stars taken off me by a GoWiPe, good attack by the number 1 in the opposition clan who also had level 5 PEKKA. Not bad, as we won the war by 1 point!

not saying anything bad about your base, but
those attacks dont prove much about your base
the last 2 attacks looks like they had no clue what they were doing and the first only had lvl 3 hogs whitch are meh

judging by the troop lvls and th lvls you gave, looks like a rushed clan, which in my experience, dont know how to attack

but despite that the base itself looks very good

the only problem i see is the double giant bomb is easily pretrigger if they know where it is (which could be revealed from earlier attacks in the wars)
its not a huge deal though as most th8s have similar problems due too only being able to only have 1 set of big bombs
and you do have 4 possible spots for them so its unlikely anyone will be able to pretrigger them on the first attack
i just thought i would bring that to your attention, but other than that its a very solid base

Its good but the CC is easy to lure. Also there are quite a few free percentage points on the right.

I've not seen this video. I've been using this base for about 7 months now since I've been TH8. It's not surprising that there are similar ones out there. As far as symmetry goes, I've seen a lot similar (rather than pointed edges, inward ones).

Anyway, I've adapted this to cater for the new air sweeper. I've also adapted the walls to sink the Clan Castle further back. With the Tesla and bombs it's much harder for people to lure my troops. Of course as with most TH8 it's hard to keep them safe, but I've done the best I can.

I'll get some videos up when I'm next attacked in war with this new design.
