Introduction to Trading and Trading Ratios
Hello everyone!
After receiving some comments from some trade partners regarding how they are confused about the trading ratios, i would like to start a thread about tips and tricks of trading.
I am calling for everyone's support to make updated footnotes regarding the ever changing dynamics of Hayday economics.
What is a ratio?
A ratio basically explains how many items i am offering for every item i will be getting from you.
A one to one ratio means i will offer one item for each item i get from you. "My ten nails for your ten screws" is a trade offer at 1:1 ratio. Generally used when conducting a trade between two items of same type.
If someone says "mine : yours" it means they will be offering the first quantity before the divident for each item you will sell them or the other way around.
Example:
3 saws : 1 sem
They are offering 3 saws for every silo expansion item you are selling.
1 sem : 2 lem
They are expecting to get 2 land expansion materials in return of each silo item they sell.
Ratios are generally presented in the mine : yours format, not yours : mine format.
Try to be as clear as possible when writing down your ratios. If needed give some examples to support your ratio. A clear and understandable offer will attract more customers. I would definitely pick the offer of someone who seems to know what they are doing.
Coins: Do they have anything to do with the ratio?
Not really. The negotiation for coins are done separately. If someone needs the items urgently they might offer to sell for one coin and buy at maximum price. Make sure you negotiate pricing as well. High level players might sell at one coin to attract low level players. You can also simply sell your expansion items for a few diamond rings for example, to make profit over sales of a rare item.
Also, most players trade at default to make things easier. If you are selling at 2:1 ratio, it means you sell two items per one you get, and you will sell twice as much as your trade partner. If you had bought those items on DD for maximum price you will end up losing coins.
How to protect yourself from being scammed?
Lately I have been receiving pm's and KIK im's from people, especially newbies who have been scammed during a trade.
---
What is scamming?
If your trade partner fails to give you the items they had promised, that's most likely scamming.
Still, I would suggest you to calm down and try to contact your trade partner. At the very moment of trading they might have had some real life urgencies or technical problems related to their device or connection.
I always make sure my battery is enough before conducting a trade and if I am up to some "real life" venture I just tell the trade partner I am busy / will be back.
Do not conduct trades in a hurry. You might do something wrong like attaching an AD.
If the trade partner avoids you by removing you from GC, FB and not making any further contacts within the next day you are most likely scammed.
---
How to avoid being scammed?
If you are conducting a trade with a brand new trade partner and it includes more than 10 items, offer trading ten by ten. It will take time but reduce the risk.
Trade with people who are clear about their ratios and what they are looking for:
Generally such scammers are greedy and will approach bigger trades, like 50 bolts, 40 saws etc. They might agree on funny ratios like 15 axes for 15 nails which we don't see quite often in the trading thread. Check their previous messages. Do they seem too promising? Have they been trading many different items, all in stacks of, despite their low level? Do they insist on you to put your items on your stall first? None of these is a solid proof that someone is a scammer of course but in trading we are on our own and once you notice the signs I would suggest to break it off immediately.
Traders with real fb accounts or gc traders are no guarantee either. I have seen people scamming with their real Facebook account, with their real name and picture exposed to the people they scammed. They seem to be okay with it.
Lower level trades first is a measure taken by many traders however i have heard about newbies being scammed by slightly higher level players so there is no guarantee.
Please do not post in the trading thread about the scammer. There is a no name and shame rule in the forums and it can result in the canceling out of the trading thread for good.

What if your partner gets their items stolen during the trade?
To avoid this please tell your partner to make sure they have had no AD on their shop during the last 15 minutes or so. Also advice your partner to remove any followers if they practice trading frequently. Even when there is no ADs or followers, people may like you via Facebook and come back to your farm and scam you. You don't necessarily have to connect your FB to HD for this to happen.
If your partner gets idle during the trade kindly ask someone from your Neighbourhood to secure the items. You have to act fast. (This had happened to me once and the items were saved thanks to my nh friend. My trade partner had lost his connection)
Collect your money from your last stall if you want to keep the followers. Seeing the valuable items sitting on last stall will attract scammers.
Even after all measures taken, if your partner gets scammed, and you are not able to get your promised items, kindly offer to have your items back or share them. Vice versa for your items being stolen.

I am accused of being a scammer. What shall I do?
When trading, you may get get a screenshot of your RSS after the items had been bought by the partner. If you are selling more than 10, put each stack on the stall before starting from the last stall. Wait before the stack of items are taken by your partner and make sure the popping id belongs to them. After you finish selling your items you may take a screenshot proving you have sold let's say forty items to your partner successfully.
There is no name and shame rule here in forums but if the word spreads in small circles you may use this as a defense.

I don't care! I will keep on scamming!
Well, the thing is you can have one GC account and one Facebook account at a time. If you keep on scamming, the word will spread in small circles and no one will be trading with you. Besides, having a trusted partnership, or friendship will get you so much more benefit than trying to scam people. That was my two Japanese Yens :)

I hope everyone plays HD fairly.
Cheers
Trading Land Expansions for saws, axes and other products
Hi everyone
I'm recently into trading my land expansion items for saws, axes and other food products. Other products include lobster, fish, cheese and goat cheese.
By trading this way not only i help very low players who can barely make cheese or goat cheese but i also get some dairy boost in return. Sometimes high level players buy them from me for candles, jewelry, lobster etc.
They are also good for saws and axes. So when i am short on them or my Neighbourhood needs them i trade my LEMs at 1:1 rate. Thus i don't need Tom at all. My land expansions are my Tom.
1:1 is a good and fair rate as i get many offers and since most players asking for LEM are at a lower level than me i am not draining their resources.
Maps AND PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS WHEN TRADING
Hi everyone!
After the tweaking of map drop rates by SC, I had been keeping an eye on the trading thread for a while.
Last week i had seen some 1:1 offers for planks, the seemingly most popular BEM. And the trades were done pretty quickly. So i had offered 13 maps for planks and got a couple of trade offers immediately! It is so hard to trade any other LEM for planks at 1:1 ratio.
Once invaded the DD and people were desperate to get rid of them, maps are now seemingly the most precious EM.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Always beware of scammers and for safety do not trade more than 10 items at once. When conducting big trades, do it ten by ten for each trader. Even a person who has some "presence" in the forums might turn up to be a scammer. You get my point :) There is some advice on this thread to protect yourself against scammers.
LEMs are Back in the Market After New Update!
Hi everyone!
After new plots of land became available after the last update, land expansion items have finally scraped free off their "on hiatus" status on the trading market. Not short ago, they were being offered at ratios like 8:1 or even 9:1 for barn expansions and 6:1 for silo expansions! I myself had to drop my ratios for LEM / saws or LEM / axes trades. As more people level up and fully expand they stop looking for LEMs and start offering them into the market and fierce competition begins :D
However, if you think you can hang on there a little bit and postpone your land expansion, this is the perfect time. There are a lot of perfectionists out there who desperately need LEMs, or people like me who simply ran out of land. There are so many land plots to be unlocked that even the most prepared player needs them at the moment. The ratios are really high. I saw Bem for Lem even at 1:1 ratio and i myself had offered 1:1 for Sem for Lem trades.
Happy farming & fair trading all!
Don't try to collect everything at once
If you try to collect increasingly large numbers of BEMs, SEMs, LEMs and even TEMs at once, and even metal bars for trains, it's just soul-destroying. When I was about level 30 I came across somebody higher than me who would take any SEMs that I had for precisely the LEMs and maps that I wanted, at a 2-1 ratio in my favour. It was the perfect scheme for me as my barn only ever filled up with BEMs and I did my land in really quick time. It also didn't matter what distribution of LEM or SEM that I collected myself. Most people find BEMs harder to collect anyway so letting your silo go for a while really doesn't cause a problem.
i guess with the recent introduction of new land now isn't the best time to start but once things settle down a little there will be plenty of people willing to help this kind of approach again...
