I feel like there is almost no creative strategy to attacking. Everyone just uses A TON of archers and then fills in with random troops. Is there anyway SUPERCELL can come up with a solution to this overuse of an uncreative method? Does anyone else have creative ways of defending? Why do you think this became the "norm"? Many thanks.
the only reason you see a lot of archers is because you're at a lower trophy range. Try 2000 above and see if a massive archer raid can make a dent in any of those bases. Mostly, it'll consist of wizards, golem and dragons. I don't see nothing wrong with using archers though. They're cheap, fast and definitely effective for farming and trophy hunt.
Archers are cheap efficent and fast. Who WOULDNT use them? (aside from trophy hunters using GOWIPE or Drags)
As for creative ways to defend against them? I hve no idea ;p
I feel the easiest way is to first of all have building like mines, collectors, barracks etc against your outer walls around your base. Then be sure your mortars are in triangle formation so you can cover as much area as possible. The archers will be distracted by attacking those outer buildings while they get pummeled by mortars and other defenses. I rarely get destroyed by archers since they usually cant get too far in (unless they are level 6 archers though) my problem lies more with defending against a giant - healer raid

Pros.
1. Their 3.5 attack range.
2. The ability to shoot over walls. enhances the 3.5 range.
3. The ability to shoot land AND air units (what makes them the most desirable Tier1 CC unit) *also enhances points 1, & 2*
4. Low housing space, cheap to build are ideal for Farming and Troph hunting as mentioned.
Cons
They have weak hp.. so that is the largest trade off.
They tend to bunch up, so splash turrets can eliminate them rather quickly.
As mentioned, you can one hit them with lvl 5 mortar and Lvl 6 WizzyTwr (well lvl5s anyhow) place mortars in range of buildings like the CC or the pumps, to wipe them out quickly. or keep a few Barbs in the CC, they deal with the Archys pretty well in my experience.
WT and Mortar pwn Archys.. if you have lvl 7 or higher walls they take a fair bit to get through, even at lvl 5. so those help slow them down for your defenses as well.
they are far to useful of a troop. that is why you tend to see them in mass on a raid. me thinks.
I love archers. Every one of my attacks has a few archys in it.
Someone delete this thread before SC updates the archer space up to 2 slots :p:p

♥♥♥♥... Level up a little and Archers are mostly worthless. Even at low levs, an Archer-only army isn't smart at all... A good low lev army has a well-timed blend of the 5 basic troops...
