I recommend doing the skulls at TH8. It'll make it a lot easier once you upgrade to TH9. The loot is also easier to obtain at TH8, so you shouldn't have a problem.

It's a waste of time and resources to get the skulls. Even max WB will take 2 hits to blast through the purple walls. Don't hold yourself back from getting to the next level TH

Finishing my last skull @ lvl eight has been my most memorable moment in CoC thus far.....
In my opinion also purples are optional. Loot is much better at th9 because of lvl6 giants an the queen. All the ones that say th9 loot is bad are the players that only barch collectors and have never learned how to raid storages.
Also defending is much easier at th9. While it was common that I get smashed at least once a day at th8 it is not so common at th9. The successful attackers get 2 of 4 storages. In rare cases someone makes it to the dark and this even at full storages.
