skulls at TH8

do you guys recommend having skull walls at TH8? I am almost finished with purple walls (only 68 pink walls left), but 500k per wall for 500 more HP seems a bit steep. is it totally optional or strongly recommended?

Absolutely, but it depends on your overall plan. I'd upgrade wiz towers, mortars, and and crucial offense first. Definitely skulls before going to th9, but it can wait for other stuff.

I meant totally optional as in "if I were to go to TH9 with all purple walls I'd be fine"

What's your goal? Do you want to max your wall or max your troops? Are you very active as well? If your pretty active then yes do skulls at th8. If not then stick with the l7 walls and just max your troops and defenses.

I say you'll be fine, but it is less work to do later. If it were me I wouldn't hang on to th8 if all I had left to do was walls and builders were all left sleeping

Agreed, of course it is optional, but think about this: loot is easier to get at th8. Skulls to Legos may be done with either elixir or gold once you are at th 9. If you are at th8, th 10 won't come after you so hard. I wish I would have done skulls at th 8 and that was before the elixir option. Again though, it's your choice.

I think you'd be fine. I went to th9 with all purples, and th10 with all skulls. Only way it'd really affect you is your vulnerability in clan wars and trophy pushing. People see low level walls on a th9 and 10 and think "easy pickings"
