Teach the game to new players in your clan? Meh, what am I talking about people don't want to help anyone out in this game nowadays.
It's all about one baby, but seriously. Help out new players and await new and improved additions to the game. It's a work in progress sweetheart. Believe it or not.
Have you played the smurf village ?
The simpson village ?
the ice age village ?
freemium ...
CoC has just found a way to make people actually buy those upgrades fast with the battle system... the point of the game, as it is in the previously enumerated games, is to progress in time. Once you reach it, wait for next update.
1800 is only about half way to the top of the leaderboard. If you've completely maxed out your base, you could:
* Work on getting to top of leaderboard
* Work on building a clan to get to the top of the leaderboard
* Teach/Mentor folks in your clan
* Work on getting all your achievements
* Refine defensive layouts
* Wait for next updates and work on maxing those and learning new attack/defense strategies
* Use the game for social reasons
* Quit
* Live on the forums and spread your knowledge
Nobody expects every CoC player to play forever. The stats of how long apps are played once installed on iOS devices are very low - I think I read 90% of all apps downloaded are played for less than a week. The ones who players invest serious time in only equates to 1-2 months, then maybe 1% of all games are played more than 90 days.
With a userbase of somewhere around 2 Million, I'm sure there are plenty who have quit, but as I read in another post, for everyone who quits, there are probably 3 more who started. It's a revolving door. Very few players will play any game for 6-12 months. The nature of CoC though does allow quite a bit of play over long periods, and is probably on the higher end of user retention. I play 5 games daily of maybe the 1500 I've tried in the last few years.
The game is pretty much over for the high end players since about a month ago.
Gus, the updates are only making us high end players get from 3000 cups back to 2500, we reach 3000 again .. New update and we're pushed back to 2500. Many of us don't consider these updates because they're aren't.
The matching system is also lame considering that it takes us hours and hours to gain 100 cups a few at a time then a guy with less cups attacks you and takes an easy 50 away in one single hit. Where's the FairPlay in this all?
Regards
I get what you're saying twister and thanks for the numbers :) but as a long time PVP player I've played PC and Xbox games for very long period and it's quite handy to have a fun multiplayer game in the iPad, if CoC was able to be less greedy you could be that ppl would play for a long time, sure with breaks but they would return. And this is how you make continuous money for a business. Trends disappear fast. Loyalty is what you should be aiming at and CoC has great chances of making it.
Twister you didn't take a very important consideration, the present high end players that are about 20% probably contribute for about 80% of the conpanys income. This is my consideration/opinion and I personally doubt that the newer players will spend this kind of money.
Best Regards
I know Jesse hehe,
My point was : there is no end goal to this game !
I played for top untill they came out with an even more refined pay-to-win system (wich seems to be the point of each update).
Now ... as twister stated : it's a social game for me :)
I put effort into findings new ways to enjoy it ! (heck, i even tried pekka armies on lvl 20s)
Ooh, I agree with you. I don't play many console games, but I played Diablo 2 for 5 years, I still play runescape, and Evony. Those are PC games that can suck YEARS out of you. It is nice to have a game like this on the iPad. I think I'm at about 4 months now, and have no intention to quit, I didn't gem everything to the end so am not running out of things to do, so I can see many more months of joy in this game. Will I be playing it in a year or two? Reality says probably not, but who knows.
Jesse: This latest update added almost 15.5 million of upgrades, which probably did deplete the available loot at the upper end, it does usually become better over time, I think it's leveling off a little at the moment in under a week, but will still take time. Resources aside, are you not finding it easier to balance trophies? You can win much more than pre-update in a few hour gaming time, yes you can still lose when you go on defense, but I'm finding in a daily cycle I can still gain, and gain quite a bit more than pre-update.
So I posted the following to our clan Bonbee Canada and I sent it with responses to Supercell. There is a legal case here regarding exploitation of customers but thats for another day. Here is my post. Hope it makes sense...
Hi Supercall
My in game name is “Pooh Face” (don't ask) I am a member of Bonbee Canada. I spend circa £**** per month on the game. I have some serious concerns that we at Bonbee have been discussing at length. I made a post regarding these issues on our clan glassboard. The following is that post so as to give you a full understanding of our concerns;
“GUYS I'm a business man as you know and I have a keen eye with regards to sales strategies. I have been studying the changes made to the game over the past few weeks including today's hit point increase to CC. I have made the following observations;
It's important to first understand the following.
Based on number of players in game, age groups and financial means of different age groups in the game (best guess) its fair to say that players fall into 3 groups;
Noobs (just started to roughly lev 45) - zero to low spend
Medium players - spend once a month but only if they can and some spend then regret as they can't sustain spend so not a massive amount of revenue
Top players- spend extreme amounts on a regular basis and have the ability to sustain the spend
Noobs and medium combined would be roughly 70% of total players.
Now from a business view;
20% of player bring in 80% of revenue for SC
Now SC will monitor spending and P&L fluctuations but they will not spot it soon enough. Spot what you might ask. Well as we now know, one of the affects of these extreme game changes is that the better player you are or become the lesser the reward so you can keep rising to the top BUT you can not stay there. which begs the question, paying to get to the top is one thing but would you keep doing it over and over? What SC will soon realise is the 20% players that I referred to are not spending anywhere near the same. This is not because they don't want to, it's because they have no need to as they are stuck spending hours just to find a battle. Those hours spent trying to find a battle are not actually gameplay time so in affect they have reduced our gameplay time massively.
Secondly Defence verses attack's balance has changed in such an extreme manner that it means the balance has gone from the game. I attacked a lev 91 yesterday. I 3 stared him at got 3 cups. He revenges me and 3 stared me and got 54 cups. I spent 8 hours of play to gain 20 cups. I lost 54 in just one def.
SC made changes today to increase hit points on CC but this just means you use two Santa's instead of one or one Santa and 1 lightening. Nothing has changed to address the fact that defence war does not exist now. We are building bases just to limit loss not to win on defence.
If you was a brand new player armed with this information would you really play this game never mind spend your hard earned cash. There is no need now to upgrade defence. For a new player they can just attack only and have no defence.
Simply put and as my audience is some of the top players in the game, the game changes of late punish the top players and the high spenders in a manor that makes me feel foolish for spending ant further. I'm not sure if this is what SC intended but nevertheless it is so and as such, I will spend one week from today monitoring the situation and if nothing has changed I will delete my game one week from today.
In the mean time I will email SC with my views and I may send a copy if this post also but first I would like to hear your thoughts
I hope I have managed to articulate my points correctly
Your Pooh Face
Such a shame and a waists of time, effort and not to mention money to try to get on top. To only be toppled by super cell nothing against farmers, but this game now pushes us all to do just that as there is no point striving for the top.
Top players now take all day to gain a few trophies to be taken in one attack in an evevening.
super cell you've ruined it in one foul swoop :( :(
I think this game is different from other freemium games because it is so captivating, but feel that maybe supercell are applying standard drop out rates and trying to entice maximum spend / player before they quit. If this is the case, I think it's a mistake, because people would probably stick with coc a lot longer if they didn't feel things were moving to a
"gem it or quit" scenario.
One possibility is that they want a constant stream of new players coming up the ranks, with attrition of top players, so the newbies don't feel that reaching the top is unacheivable, and be inclined to buy some gems to speed up their ascent.
They ( Rauta, I believe) said they are using lessons learned here to improve their new game. I suppose that at least is good news, but I will be unlikely to download it, as I don't want to spend so much time on a game.
I've enjoyed the game so far, and have learned some lessons for it ( don't allow in app purchases!). I've stopped playing as much as I was after th9 update, and think I will start to wind down soon ( yes, if I quit, I will leave collectors and storage unprotected)
As i've posted on another thread....... the lack of resources that been caused by troop protection hiding hundreds of thousands of elixir all the time couple with the matchmaking 'improvements' has killed the game.
One former no.1 player quit last night, a lower level guy quit today due to lack of elixir to make troops.
Our insanely active clan has died this week as moral and motivation to play has evaporated. Our clan has dropped 500 places in 5 days.
Members have maybe have enough elixir for 2 attacks and cant win enough back and the matches are too tough for them anyway.
The most telling thing is members are logging off overnight and not being attacked. This is unheard of and points towards a universal drop off in people playing.
Supercells constant 'improvements' and ignoring the sensible 'core' players complaints and starting to have an effect. Its quite sad that such a popular and addictive game can be effectively ruined by the makers foolish change in ideas.
When a game is based on something that players can directly enfluence to their advantage then it's broke. Since a player can dump trophies and attack less experienced people, they get to manipulate the game. The attack rank needs to be based on something that is calculated by the game that happens during normal game play. Lots of MMPOLRPGs have ways on controling this, but this game rewards those who abuse the system. I've been attacked 16 times since the upgrade. Only one of those was a "real" attack. The rest were dumping trophies. So, I've moved up 200 trophies at least without me doing anything to earn those. I should have to earn my may and the "farmers" should have to earn (or buy) their way.
Should be based on earnings not dumpings!
IMHO:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Ive been attacked 45 times in 5 days ...........everyone of them dumped trophies!
This is constantly artificially bumping my count up. There is no common sense in the game anymore, its been tipped on its head and just bizarre.
MMORPG*
And farming does take work. I, for one, am farming the farmers (or at least attempting to). I have to be patient and stay on while my goblins and Wallbreakers are being trained, so I don't have to gain 4k trophies every time I go to the forums. (Obvious exaggeration is obvious).
On a more serious note, any Lowbies getting trophies are only temporary storage units. All the trophies being dumped right now will balance out coming next patch, hopefully. Think of your trophy gaining as a temporary problem, soon to be rectified.
Edit: Next patch, be prepared to cry about getting raided by level 50+ on a regular basis as everyone try's to gain their dumped trophies.
pooh face i know we are in the same clan and this will sound biased but you are absolutely right, supercell is cutting it's own throat by not taking care of the user experience for it's biggest spending players.
I'm not saying the 99% that doesn't spend a lot isn't important but from a business perspective this is BAD business - there are hundreds of thousands of iOS apps - products - out there but only a finite number of customers, that's business 101
Smurf village is okay. I wanted to attack the smurfs and squish them like Gargamel though.
Simpson village..holy ♥♥♥♥ what a horrible game. It is linked to Origin servers which are so horribly unstable SC makes them look like complete amateurs. I uninstalled Simpsons: Tapped Out because it was so incredibly boring and the game has a habit of resetting progress constantly.
Ice Age? I'll check that one out.
It is possible not to gem take your time and draw it out , for example just did lvl 10 cannon other day and was like yees looking at it ,I get a lot of satisfaction out of the game, the upgrades 3 staring tough opponents and creating little tournaments (social aspects) are just some of the things you can do as twister said liven it up do a race who can get from 250 trophies to 1000 if your getting board idk try think outside the square ;)
