Could've been before the updates were released for the new th (9) and he just glitched the gold storages?

very simple explanation HE went to th10 before the profile update came out, and never logged on after that update came out, so the game never registered what he had currently, and just displayed the original achievement goal.

Thought of that but it's not possible. His profile says he is TH8 so he would have had to somehow start upgrading his TH from 9 to 10 without visiting his village for this to work. I still can't come up with a rational explanation for this.
