[TH8] Lab upgrades

In TH8, it seems that I am likely to finish upgrading walls and buildings long before I am done upgrading in the lab, so I want to prioritize troops that I are going to continue being useful as a late TH8 and early TH9. In that vein, I plan on maxing out the things I use frequently for farming (Barb, Archer, Giants, Spells) but I'm not quite sure where to go from there.

Since TH7 my primary war attack strategy has been mass Dragons, and they are currently level 2. However I hear that Dragons are not really all that useful in TH9 and above. Would it be better to do Wizards/Pekkas, or Balloons/Minions, or Hog Riders? I'll do them all eventually as time permits, but what's the most efficient to get done prior to getting to TH9?

Get your drags to level 3 and max your rage as soon as you're done upgrading your farming troops. They are useful in CWs and can almost 3 star any base with the correct placement.

After drags, I would suggest doing wiz/pekka/loons whichever you use frequently and if you have spare DE, upgrade minions and hogs.

Well... this isn't very helpful. You didn't address my question regarding the usefulness of Dragons once I hit TH9. While I understand that in the short term they are very good against other TH8 bases in wars, the state of my clan is such that whether I get 2 stars with level 2 dragons or 3 stars with level 3 is very seldom of any consequence, so if the upgrade is such that it won't be useful once I hit TH9 it seems like a waste of time.

I currently don't use any of the other troops you mentioned so I have no idea what would be best. I Barch or GiBarch 99% of the time when I'm farming and only use Dragons for wars.

TH9s use GoWiPe, GoWiWi, Lavaloonion, HoLoWiWi, etc.
Definitely not mass drags!

Once you have finished with your farming troops (barbs, archers, wallbreakers, and minions) you should upgrade dragons. Lvl 3 dragons with upgraded spells can take out any th8 base in war. You can easily get 2 stars off most th9s as well. The most effective war strategies for th9 (gowipe, gowiwi, etc) take months to upgrade and also cost dark elixir. Having a good war strat for the interim is a good idea. Dragons are also amazing cc troops...

Mass dragons stand no chance in decent th9.

2) Dragons
3) Loons (if you do 813 dragon attacks a lot)
4) Barbs
5) Rage
6) Heal
7) WBs (hey I use them for farming right?)
8) Lightning (sometimes AD6s will not die)
9) Wizards (I rarely use these guys, but they're useful for donations)
10) ??

I'm on #9 only. But 10 probably is Giants.

Right, so this being the case would you recommend just getting started on upgrades that will help me against a decent TH9? In which case what would be the best way to prepare for that as a TH8?

This is my order that I did so far!

1. Archers
2. Barbarians
3. Dragons
4. Minions
5. Balloons
6. Currently doing wizards in my lab!!

But, TH 9 don't use dragons. I would upgrade balloons and minions as that is an amazing farming strategy for Town Hall 9, and then you could use them for Lavaloon and Holowiwi and etc!

Assuming you have been keeping your lab busy at all times which you should ALWAYS be doing, you should still have a decent amount of time before you max your TH8 base.

You are looking at a 12 week period with 5 builders (always busy) at TH8.

Your upgrade line should include dragon lvl 3 early on if you war frequently as they are the best TH8 war composition. I would recommend upgrading drags after you do your BARCH army.

Here is what I did at TH8:

1. Barb
2. Arch
3. Dragon
4. Rage
5. Giant
6. Wizard
7. Minion lvl 3
8. Minion lvl 4
9. Balloon
10. PEKKA 2
11. PEKKA 3
12. Golem
13. Lightning Spell
14. Heal Spell


I skipped Valk, Hogs, Goblin, Wall breaker, Healer. Came to TH8 with maxed TH7 research.

I left TH8 with maxed buildings and walls. (took a week or so to finish skulls before TH9 upgrade).

My builders weren't always busy 100% of the time (probably 98% of the time though) and I don't think I got builder #5 until a week or so in. I also took advantage of TH9 upgrade time to finish a couple 5 day research upgrades.

Long story short - Dragon lvl 3 early will be worth it in clan wars while you are at TH8. You will be able to attack and beat better upgraded TH8 and some early/rushed TH9 and TH10 bases for extra loot. You will want to max your PEKKA and Golem before you hit TH9 if you war frequently. Also you will want to max Balloon and Minion beforehand so you can max them fast at TH9.

How far into TH8 are you? If you've got a little while I'd definitely get drags to L3 to help you now. You'll want the pekkas and balloons done in preparation for TH9. Wizards should be at 5. If you can get your golem to 2, do it. It's not necessary, though IMO. if you do dark upgrades, focus on getting minions to 4 before worrying about the golem.

Are L3 Dragons helpful outside of wars?

As previously stated, my current clan is such that upgrading Dragons for the sake of wars seems pointless. We do war a fair amount, but we are not organized at all so if I find we are in a situation where my getting 3 stars on attacks will matter then I can always find easier bases to attack that I can 3 star with L2 Dragons; otherwise I just go for loot cuz the outcome is not in question.

Dragons are pretty useful in TH8/9 so get them to lvl3 if you constantly use them.

Hogs are really good but it's a 50/50 because a double giant bomb with blow them all up.

GoWiPe/GoWiWi is a really popular strategy and a 2 star most of the time but to really get a secure 2 star and perhaps a 3 star on a decently good base will require upgraded troops (ideally pekka lvl2+, golem lvl2+, wizards lvl5). I remember one member in our clan who was a TH with maxed troops and 3 star GoWiWiPe'd a pretty high lvl TH9 (lvl8 walls, lvl1/2 xbows, etc.).

Balloonian is very good as well. Not very good against lvl6 WTs and lvl6 ADs with lvl5 loons and lvl2+ minions but can 3 star a base with lvl3-4 ADs and WTs.

Once you upgrade dragons to lvl3, you won't have to worry about upgrading them to lvl4 until TH10 so that's what I suggest you upgrade since you've been using them for a long time and you're used to them/know how they work but if possible then get your GoWiPe troops because they're gonna be beasts at TH8 and TH9

Yes they are. Mass dragons certainly is great for high cup pushing but don't use them to farm. I used to use 1-2 dragons when farming for any emergency (like all my troops are dead with a substantial amount of loot remaining) but they're also extremely useful for donations. Sure they cost a lot but elixir is quite easy to come by.

This is my list of past, present and future lab upgrades at TH8 and it seems to be working pretty good for me.

1. Arch - 5
2. Barb - 5
3. Dragons - 3

^^ That takes care of my farming troops and (most of the time) war troop

4. Balloons - 5 (For Balloonion)
5. Minions - 2 (For Balloonion)
6. Wiz - 5 (For Donations)
7. Giants - 5 (Just so I can get level 6 as soon as I hit TH9)
8. WB - 5 (destroys gold walls with just 1) (not done)
9. Minions - 3 (not done)
10. Minions - 4 (not done)
11. Pekka - 2 - For Gowipe (not done)
12. Pekka - 3 - For Gowipe (not done)
13. Rage - 5 (not done)
14. Heal - 5 (not done)
15. Lightning - 5 (not done)

I have Golems unlocked with the level 4 DB but I'm not upgrading them or anything else not listed in TH8. There's simply no use for goblins or healers for me anyways. And Valks and Golems cost way too much for a TH8 to hang on to. I'm not a fan of hogs and will probably never use them. Balloonion is much better, more reliable and WAY more fun. Even with level 5 loons and level 2 minions you can 3 star all TH8's when you use 2 heal 1 rage and have level 6 loons in your CC.

in my case my clan is doing majority of drag attack

so i upgrade on my first account
barb5 (for farm arch doesnt matter they dont have significant ups they are just one hitted by mortars)
wiz 5(wiz lvl 5 is almost max why not do it)
pekka 2
golem 2
pekka 3
wall breaker 5 ( i do it late cause with rage wall breaker can enter lvl 8 walls)
and all the other

on my other account i did

barb 5
balloon 5 (balloonian strat)
minion 2
hog 2 (hog 2 can survive lvl 2 giant bomb) ( hog start)
hog 3 (can survive lvl 3 giant bomb)
hog 4 (can survie any giant bomb)

my second account is mass dark elixir needed just little tricck for this you can get alot of dark elixir on crystal and above but the problem is can you get theyre D.E ?? sure you can leech some just by doing a little trick


townhall hunting with twist: just that simple but the only thing different is always bring lightning spell ^^ with that you get de for loot bonus and you get de on theyre storage
10k/2hrs im lvl 8 town hall and i lazy way but it works i only put 5 arch or barbs or minoin or barb king for the raid
and i hitted 5 things very vital those time you can upgrade your barracks to max just by doing that and max the barb king ,abit walls ,doing achivements and ofcourse upgrading your dark elix army
